Florida football is set to hire Tulane's Jon Sumrall as its next head coach, according to multiple reports.

Sumrall, in his second season at Tulane, has the Green Wave at 10-2 this season and in contention for a College Football Playoff berth. No. 23 Tulane (No. 24 in CFP) plays No. 22 North Texas in the American Conference championship game on Friday, Dec. 5, with the winner having a strong shot at reaching the 12-team bracket.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reports Florida is finalizing a 6-year deal with an average annual salary of $7.5 million. Yahoo! Sports' Ross Dellenger reports Florida expects Sumrall to accept the offer Sunday with an official announcement to follow.

Congrats Bazza. JS will have some talent to work with. UF played very good against Free Shoes. Hope he does well. We need another good team in the conference to beat Ucheat and Gawga. JMO, he will still have a QB issue.

Thanks, everyone.

I'm going to remain optimistic. We have a pretty good roster who I believe will be returning, so that's going to help.

It's official now:

Pretty impressive bio at the above linked article - definitely worth a look.

Of note, Coach Sumrall was born in Texas but raised in Huntsville, AL:

A two-time all-Alabama selection and four-year letterwinner at Grissom High School, Sumrall was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Hall of Fame in 2023. He is married to the former Ginny Nixon, also of Huntsville, and they have four children: Sam, Sadie, Stella and Selah.
