Florida hires Louisiana's Billy Napier as new Head Football Coach (11/28/2021) ***EDIT: and fired on 10/19/2025***

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

He's got Miss. State at home this weekend. Florida is a heavy favorite. A loss would give them the last nail to go ahead and fire him Sunday morning.

But not giving up OC duties......meh, he did this crap to himself.

From what I'm hearing (just scuttlebutt) he's toast whether Florida wins or not.

Also hearing the high dollar Gator Boosters are ultimately who made this decision.

I feel bad for the players but at some point something had to be done, so we'll see what happens.

I guess it depends on just how much he was "asked" to make changes vs was told to and didn't. Of course, I'm not an employment lawyer and I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Wasn't being snippy. Just that being set up for the rest of your life without ever having to work again...man!:D

Sorry it didn't work out with BN. I think most people (including JessN, IIRC) had him as a young, up-and-coming coach. But sometimes the "big time" eats up a coach.

There's way too much talent in the Sunshine State for UF (and all the other programs) not to be winning and winning big.

While I don't wish to see more strong teams in the conference since it's already "murderer's row," I suspect UF will land a HC who is an improvement! Most coaches would crawl on broken glass to get there!

If it happens this week - or even this season - it's his own ego's fault.

He was asked to bring in a new OC, if not staff, and give up the play-calling but he stubbornly held up their end-of-season success as proof he didn't need to do it.

Had he done that, he'd have likely bought himself an extra season...
Shula 2.0

Not sure if you guys remember but last year Billy got an incentive NIL $ bonus on the condition he bring in someone else to run the offense.

All he did is promote the Co-offensive Coordinator to Offensive Coordinator - but still retained the play calling.

Talk about reneging on a deal. The boosters have good cause to kick him out......

Might just be rumors but it’s going around that Florida is making moves behind the scenes to Can Billy by the end of this week.

Other sites are speculating on it anyway and articles are being written.

I know this name gets thrown around every time there is a big job opening but sounds like Kiffin is high on the list of names for a replacement.

With State Penn and the Gators jobs opening up, who the heck do these programs think they are going to get? I mean, proven winners. Think they can snipe Lanning from duck money or something like that? Take a chance on the Indiana coach? Lane is not your answer for sure so I am just wondering the strategy of where to find the best coach for their programs.

Using the list you just posted, 5 of the top 7 had no HC experience when they were hired

Results seem to suggest identifying specific characteristics and values over purely experience and outcomes.

Can you find the NEXT Lanning, Day, Freeman, etc.? And that's probably even harder than the questions you're asking
