I'm thinking of buying a new truck and I've come down to the F-150 or the Silverado. I know that they are both good trucks but I can't quite decide which one I prefer. I've always been a Chevy man but the new Fords are very sharp trucks, imo. Do any of you have any input/opinions/personal experience with any of the newer model Chevys or Fords?

I was just curious as to some of your opinions on the two vehicles.

Thanks for any input you may provide...

I switched from Chevy to Ford in 97. I traded in 03 for a F150 Harley Davidson Supercrew cab. Love the ride and love the service I have from Ford.

I drive a '96 Silverado 1500 4x4, ext. cab, with 110M miles . Has been a great, great truck. Solid, comfortable, quiet for a truck, smooth ride, few problems, good tunes. I would buy another Chev/GMC in a second. Never owned a Ford anything and can't speak of them one way or another.

A major endearment is that it's paid for.

I can't speak for Chevy (never owned one), but I've been a Ford fan for years. We currently own a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT and a 2002 Ford Explorer Limited and remain entirely satisfied with both the performance of the vehicles and the outstanding service we get from Ford. Maybe we've been lucky with dealerships, but when something does need maintaining or repairing, they've always given us a more than fair price and excellent customer service.

Have fun in making your decision. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either truck.

I started out going with the lowest bidder on fleet trucks which was Chevy. As I replaced some with Fords I found out the Fords held up better under heavy use. I had a 2000 Ford Expedition I replaced last year when I decided I didn't need anything that big any longer.

I totalled my '03 F-150 Supercrew 3 weeks ago. While I was waiting for the insurance company to process the claim I rented an '05 Silverado from Enterprise. Couldn't wait to turn it in after I picked up the '05 F-150. I've found that the '05 F-150 is even more comfortable and has more power than the '03 but I still miss my old truck. It was crimson and Ford didn't put that color on the '05. I drove to Tannehill State Park on Saturday for a reenactment and to Florala yesterday and got 19.5 mpg. Outstanding for such a large pickup.

Ford vs. Chevy

Ok, I have to put my $0.02 worth in. I owned a 1992 Chevy 1500 4x4 extended cab pickup with a 350 in it that i just loved. It was a great pickup and it never let me down. However, I got a 2001 Ford Supercrew 4x4 and have really been impressed with the Ford. The truck has been great. So, what we have here is just my experience with two pickup models that have changed a lot. The new Silverado isn't anything like what i had back in '92 and the new Ford isn't anything like what I have now. I personally like the looks of the new Ford and have ridden in several of the newer models, and they ride great. The Chevy's have always ridden great, but my impression and experience is that the Ford is a tougher more durable ride. So, that being said my vote and my money would go to the new Ford.

If you aren't knocked over by sticker shock, go and drive both back to back, on the same day, and make a decision from that. I don't think you will regret either choice.

My Ford (Ranger) has almost 140k on it and all I've done to it is routine maintenance. I'm planning on driving my Ranger until the wheels fall off. Then I'll get me a F-150.

...and Jack Bauer drives the new F-150. It repels bullets and gets him from one side of Los Angeles to the other in about two minutes. He should probably take that truck to the Indy 500.

i have an '04 F-150 4x4 that i love. roomy, plenty of power, very quiet ride, good gas mileage. the ford company in natchez has the best service department i've ever used.

i wanted the FX/4 but couldn't come up with the extra $5000

what can i say, vj, i'm just a truck nut!! since '98, i've had a gmc sierra, f-150, toyota, and now an f-150. all four wheel drives to get me to the bass and the deer!
nothing wrong with the chevy/gmc, but the ride in the ford is so much better. also, my gas mileage in the ford is almost as good as the tacoma, and it was a V-6!!

...

Thanks for all of the input...

I went ahead and got the F-150; it's the first Ford that I've ever owned and hopefully it'll be a good one.

My last two vehicles have been a '97 F-150 and currently a '03 Silverado. I like both vehicles. My only comment is that you might want to look at resale values - the Chevy will probably be better on that end.
