Forgive, not sure where to ask this. Question about Alabama colors.

Ok, me and the wife are looking to do an Alabama themed bathroom with a picture of bryant-denny on the wall. So we need to get some paint mixed up.

According to wikipedia the *OFFICIAL* Crimson color is "color PMS 201".
RGB mixture (163, 38, 56)

Now here is my question. Is there an official white?
This might sound like a strange question at first, but there are many different shades of white.

Anybody know?

Not an obtuse question by any means, and I don't know the real answer. I know I see many shades of white, in addition to many shades of "crimson." OU has "crimson and cream," but, I swear, I don't see any difference in their cream and our white. I'll poke around and maybe an artist will kick in with a real answer...

The official gray is Pantone Matching System (PMS) Warm Gray 9 in case you might want to use that as your other color option. Warm Gray 10 is also listed as an option when not the primary color.

The white used, at least as far as printed materials is typically going to be the color of the paper stock. And in the guide above (section 2.4 lists the official colors) is simply listed as White, so I would just go with a basic White while avoiding any of the varying shade options.

When I painted my computer room, I used Elephant Gray for the walls and Crimson for the Fan with white accents. I then put up 6" flags along the ceiling for accent. I then added a set of houndstooth chairs to finish of the basics.

I continue to find Nike's choice of "crimson" frustrating. I watched the replay of the championship game the other night and the helmets were a completely different shade than the jerseys. Call me paranoid but I'm beginning to think Nike's association with Oregon in all their flamboyance has made them less interested in more traditional teams.

Lowes mixed the colors for us. At first the crismon was way off. Luckly my girlfriend set them straight and it loos great. By the way, She's only been a Bama fan for 4 years. That's when I took her to her first Bama spring game. Think I'll keep her.

Why don't you just email the Athletic Dept? They have been doing a lot of painting lately.
Any particular email address or person?

Oh and KanBama, we are looking to do one crimson wall with the photo on it, the other walls and ceiling white, with hounds tooth trim. Finding the right hounds tooth pattern to match the hat will probably be a great challenge.

At 1st Sugar Bowl in SuperDome (Bama vs State Penn), lights appeared to have made a change in our shade of red, to me.

If you have some items that are the right color take them to a paint dealer that has a spectroscopic matcher. I.e item is analyzed by computer and matched. The benjamin Moore dealer here has a matcher. You have a crimson hat -take it to the dealer and he will match it. You have UA jammies they can match em'

I used to work for Sherwin Williams and at the time S-W was the paint supplier to the University. As a result the S-W store in Tuscaloosa has as close as an official "Crimson" and "White" as you will find. (My foyer are painted these colors.) If you go to your local S-W they can contact the Tuscallosa store ans get the formula.

I tried the glidden Official team colors about 5-6 years ago in my home office. I didn't like the color Crimson they used, so I made my own. Mine looked better, more the Crimson of the Jerseys from my youth(60's and 70's). As someone pointed out, in the Nike age you just never know what your getting. remember the seemingly two tone Crimson Jerseys a few years ago, How about the CBS sportscaster in the NCAA tourney 5-6 years ago commenting as Alabama was bringing up the ball 'Here comes Alabama in the maroon jerseys, Stanford in white'. I think it is time Crimson is defined and locked in a vault for all time the same as the official unit of metric measure is locked in a vault in Paris(although it is loosing mass).
One other thing, I painted my walls Crimson and the trim white(small room) for the walls I used Satin, and the trim Semi Gloss with a script A on one wall in white, It looked great. probably to much red for a large room, but for a 10' by 10' room it was fine. In the family room, I also painted the wall around my stone fireplace the same crimson in a flat finish and the other walls tan eggshell , almost matching the stone. Got a lot of compliments on it.

If you take the 1992 National Champions and the 2011 National Champions officially licensed metal license plates you will have the correct colors in my opinion. They are the Angry Elephant colors. Home Depot colors ARE NOT correct. Trust me, they stink. The 1992 one is actually better.

Your Welcome and Roll Tide.

A good paint store man should be able to match those items so closely you can't tell the difference. Ben Moore, Sherwin Williams. Not Lowes or Home Depot. A real paint and decorating store.

CPB changed the crimson to a lighter shade in late 60's saying the team no longer deserved to wear the same color worn by earlier teams.... IIRC

guys, today I got the home depot UA Crimson.
Now I have read the comments and I feel I have made a huge mistake.

I tried to give the guy at benjamin moore the PMS 201 code AND the RGB code and he said his system would not take those codes. I looked on the BM website and it said color 2003-10 is the alabama color (million dollar red).
I started to get frustrated with the whole thing so I called home depot and they claimed they had the *OFFICIAL* color. I went and had them mix up a gallon.

I have yet to use it. If it is crap then I want to get something better.
There is a sherman williams in my area (I am in south florida) so if push comes to shove I can get them to call the Tuscaloosa store right?

Oh god this has turned in to a headache... I just want the one true OFFICIAL COLOR on my wall.... why is this so hard?
