Last week, at my wedding reception, the discussion turned briefly to football. Still basking in the glow of my new marriage and Bama whipping TN being icing on the cake (my new bride even wrote the score on my groom's cake).
One of the attendees, an Auburn grad, was boasting about her school. I pointed out to every one the sad truth.
Auburn has something that Alabama has never had, and this season perfectly reflects that Auburn has reached a goal that Alabama can NEVER attain. As I was saying this, she beamed happily, probably with visions of heisman trophies dancing in her head.
In a solemn voice, I said, "This special year marks the 50th anniversary of Auburn's one and only National Championship, and Alabama will never have that special moment as Auburn does."
Silence followed, then roars of laughter. The Auburn grad walked out of the room.
