The host are all making sense on NIL. A lot of schools will not be able to build new facilities because they are giving money to buy players. I realize if you win money comes in but at some point players are going to want more and more money. Thoughts?

Yep, and some of us said this but you know we were Eeyores or something like that.

Once upon a time, the University of Nebraska had that weight room that was beyond state-of-the-art for it's time. But once everybody else was getting the monies and focus to play that game, Nebraska - college football's second biggest historical accident (behind Notre Dame) - was history as a powerhouse.

I’ve watched Gameday most weeks this year for the first time in a long time. The piece about the kid from Mich. St. having to raise his brothers and sisters after his mother’s death is the good side of NIL. No doubt whatever he’s getting is blessing his family. Taking his 5 year old sister to team meetings before taking her to school….man that’s tough and good on the Sparty coaches for working with him.

Stupid onions...

i think the purpose of that segment on GD was investing in infrastructure. McAfee made the comment RichRod hit him up to help secure a couple of players , and the players aren’t playing. So why donate to that when he can donate money that will actually help the program. Like stadium renovations.

This speaks to the whole problem of paying a guy before he shows up on campus. No way - if I had the money to do so - am I donating my money to give to an 18yo gonna be transferring because they're not playing or whose Uncle / Mama / Daddy / agent is sticking his/her hand out again in 6 months because they are. No. Way.

If we could restrict transfers and pay guys for performance (maybe everybody gets base pay + possible incentive pay-for-play) I would have no problem with NIL. But paying guys to sign b/c they were good in 6A football games is ridiculous in all cases IMHO.

It’s almost like there wasn’t this magical pot of free money floating around and that money had to be redirected from other purposes to now pay players.

Regarding the players and NIL, it seems that the teams benefiting the most are those whose players are more focused on the name on the front of the jersey rather than the one on the back. Bama is a great example of that this year. Hopefully, I haven’t just jinxed us. Lol

That pool of money has always been there, paying players. It's just now in the open and exposed. And, despite the NCAA's act, it's uncontrolled, unlike the NFL...

But we were told there was "plenty" of money to go around. The advocates said there was "billions of dollars" in college football. The problem is, the schools dont get "billions". The NIL will create big shortfalls in athletic department budgets.

Yes but it’s like when Scott Williams said “the North Carolina guys scored 55 points” during a Bulls game against the Knicks, where Williams scored one and some guy named Jordan (don’t worry, I’m sure you’ve never heard of him) scored 54.

Ohio State could have $2.5 billion and Purdue might be .5 billion in the red. But there’d still be “billionS”, it would just be misleading.
