Stupid onions...The piece about the kid from Mich. St. having to raise his brothers and sisters after his mother’s death is the good side of NIL. No doubt whatever he’s getting is blessing his family. Taking his 5 year old sister to team meetings before taking her to school….man that’s tough and good on the Sparty coaches for working with him.
We are already experiencing this in Tuscaloosa. The new Coleman hasn’t happened because of rising costs and donor funds going to NIL instead of capital improvements.
This speaks to the whole problem of paying a guy before he shows up on campus. No way - if I had the money to do so - am I donating my money to give to an 18yo gonna be transferring because they're not playing or whose Uncle / Mama / Daddy / agent is sticking his/her hand out again in 6 months because they are. No. Way.i think the purpose of that segment on GD was investing in infrastructure. McAfee made the comment RichRod hit him up to help secure a couple of players , and the players aren’t playing. So why donate to that when he can donate money that will actually help the program. Like stadium renovations.
It’s almost like there wasn’t this magical pot of free money floating around and that money had to be redirected from other purposes to now pay players. The host are all making sense on NIL. A lot of schools will not be able to build new facilities because they are giving money to buy players. I realize if you win money comes in but at some point players are going to want more and more money. Thoughts?
But, but, but College Football makes BILLIONS of dollars. It’s almost like there wasn’t this magical pot of free money floating around and that money had to be redirected from other purposes to now pay players.
Mickey Mouse has a product to sell and this product needs players to operate. Therefore, I believe the mouse should pony up the money for players to ensure that they have a quality product to sell. But, but, but College Football makes BILLIONS of dollars.
The mouse pretty much does pay for it. They bought the SEC tv rights for 300 million a year for ten years.Mickey Mouse has a product to sell and this product needs players to operate. That pool of money has always been there, paying players. It's just now in the open and exposed. And, despite the NCAA's act, it's uncontrolled, unlike the NFL...It’s almost like there wasn’t this magical pot of free money floating around and that money had to be redirected from other purposes to now pay players.
But we were told there was "plenty" of money to go around. The advocates said there was "billions of dollars" in college football. The problem is, the schools dont get "billions". The NIL will create big shortfalls in athletic department budgets.
