Getting Ready for Spring Battles!

I feel strongly both ways on this.

Lloyd hasn't played a meaningful snap. We haven't gotten to the point in spring practice that they're even in full pads. Yet he's publicly named the starter?

Is that because he's just that much better than anybody else? If so, what did he do to earn the spot before full contact work?

Is it because nobody else stepped up? If so, that's some bad news.

You can certainly look at it both ways. I know how athletic the kid is and he was the 2nd team LT behind a most likely NFL 1st rounder last year as a TF so I look at it positively. I think we will see a LT with good quick feet which has been a while since we have seen.

So a guy that couldn't get on the field two months ago is suddenly a locked-in starter before even putting on the pads? Almost every time this staff does something it's baffling. This is like trying to figure out the Milroe thingy.

In the spirit of trying to figure things out, would a player, for instance Proctor, have a NIL deal that requires that he start and play a certain percentage of the snaps? Something like that would explain a whole lot.

this is around the time they said Ty was the guy last year if I remember correctly so it probably means he’s the best option and the tackle transfers were expensive insurance policies/depth. The line is pretty much set it seems except for one of the guards. Hopefully they have a starting five set before fall camp.

To be fair as a tackle... Proctor until recently with Ty was the only lock for the first round draft pick Alabama had and that's who he was playing behind. The other tackle spot ended up with Carroll who earned his way on the field and will stay there as he may be better.

It certainly not for a lack of options that they think he's the best for the job and they can change their minds if someone steps up

Alabama's Transfer Center Took Strength Strides In Offseason Program

"He's come in and really built himself up," Kalen DeBoer said. "I think the strength and conditioning program was a big part that he was excited about and he took advantage of that. The last few weeks you could really see him take strides there with his strength numbers. I think that's probably given him some confidence when he steps on the football field. We haven't even put the pads on so it's hard to evaluate that right now, but him going out there and making the calls and getting things started, that's what a center's got to do, and he's done a good job so far."

That’s good buuut I hope he actually is bigger than Brailsford as listed because good size/weight is really needed to stop those DTs. Brailsford Couldn’t move anyone and killed inside runs. But of course the whole line was just annually horrible any improvement will be wonderful lol

if he’s making big strides in the weight room that quickly he’s gonna put on 10-15 before the season easy. Downside is he’s gonna hit a wall at some point and stay at that for awhile unless he adds bad weight.

Probably still newbie gains, as in a novel response from his nervous system.

He’s got a few months to put on some weight and slim it back a little. 3-5 pounds of muscle would be a nice addition, although I think a little table muscle might not be terrible either. He just can’t gain so much that his mobility suffers.

completely agree. For all the positive vibes Brailsford got through the season and about how great his technique is/was, his NFL.com draft grade and eval level sets where he really is and that is he's just not long enough or big enough. he gets credit for agility if he's in a zone scheme, but outside of that one role/scheme, there are a lot of doubts.
