There's little way to get true "justice" in an NCAA violations case like this. We came as close as possible when the offending players served the appropriate suspension and were subsequently reinstated for play by the NCAA.

I'm thankful we didn't lose scholarships, but we all know that the concept of vacating wins is ridiculous. Do you think that any vacated win will ever be shown on ESPN Classic, with a crawler at the bottom of the screen stating, "This game was actually won by the loser."??

But, in the spirit of re-writing the record books, my question is, "Where does the worst-to-first type turnaround by Coach Nick Saban rank him on the all-time list of coaches? How many coaches have taken over a program and have produced a record of 2-11 (or 1-12, depending on the source) and then followed it up with an undefeated regular season and a 12-2 overall record? I say that this only adds to the mystique of our coach when someone is parusing the historical records 30 years from now.

I am kidding, but yet I'm not. I think my statement reflects the entire logic behind vacating wins, right? If you DON'T adopt the mindset that the NCAA can re-write the historical events, then how does this type of punishment carry any weight? Is it not an attempted attack on pride? In other words, it's only a punishment if you allow it to be in your own mind.

The vacated wins only are relevant in the official record books of the NCAA. Nothing to get your feathers ruffled over.

Gene Stallings and Alabama won 70 games in 7 years during his tenure. You and I know it, and that's the way everyone else knows it. But in the NCAA record books he only won 62 (or something close to that) because of "vacated" wins in 1993. Who cares.

What the NCAA writes down in their archives is irrelevant to most college football fans. What happens on the field is what matters.

The biggest concern I have is that the NCAA is giving us 3 YEARS of probation because a few supply store employees gave away too many books. Are you freakin' kidding me. It's like paying a parking ticket late, and then getting a letter from the judge telling you that if you get a DUI or speeding ticket next year you're going to get harsher punishment than everyone else would because you are in the "repeat offender" window.

I've always been a cup half full person so my take on it is this:

The vacated wins, basically the same as the games were never played.

OK, but we have to remember that our guys on the football team and from the other sports at least know where the book store is and how to select the right textbooks for their classes.

Have you any idea how many schools' student athletes couldn't even find the book store on their campus with a GPS! Of course, I'm thinking of the cow college and that arange team in obnoxiousville. Even if they did find their respective book store, they might have difficulty finding a book that hasn't been colored in yet.

I think that our next year's Media Guide (if these are still allowed by the NCAA) or at least the Bryant Museum should tout the phenomenal record of Alabama as the "Bowlingest" team in America - heck, we can now claim that we went to 3 straight bowls without having a winning record. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that vacated wins are like the game was never played, not forfeitures.
I think you are right...

So, now Saban's critics will say he had a 0% winning in his first year and his fans can say that he was 12-2 in his first season on record at Alabama (which I would assume is the best first season in school history) ;)

The Tennessee and Colorado victories from 2007 still stand.
