Government Shutdown

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

The best outcome the Democrats can hope for is a re-opened government, released Epstein files, and a platform showing how the whole cabal of Republicans are heartless, lying thieves who doubled the cost of healthcare for every American and probably 80-100 million with no healthcare due to affordability. Sit and watch national healthcare collapse in on itself.

With all due respect, having the government make up the difference between what an individual would have to pay for healthcare sans credits and with the credits does not make anything "affordable". It still costs the same unless we take actions to bring down what the doctors, hospitals and pharmacies charge for health care. Having the government take the money out of your back pocket to just turn around and give it back to you as a credit into your front pocket does not bring down the cost of health care, It just shifts it onto someone else.

Sure we can do that but are you willing to wipe out 20% of the population to reign it back in as is being attempted right now. The problems indeed need fixing but they take years of committed leadership to do so. That is non existent now.

People fail to see how these programs contribute to a significant portion of our GDP and economy. If you cant afford healthcare you cant work, if you have to stay home to care for a loved one you can't work.

The rip the band aid approach will result in disastrous outcomes for our country. And that is what the Republicans want is to just break it all. If civil unrest unfolds, just impose martial law and suspend elections.

You can laugh at me, but you dont strategically place national guard personnel through the country without some expectation that civil unrest emerges and all you then it is to strike the match. You get people going hungry and that is what you will get.

And many people will be fine with this outcome, but this ain't America.

I didn't realize that pointing out facts would cause 20% of the population to die.

Now that this election is over, I predict the shutdown comes to an end by this weekend if not before.

Hopefully, With the several-week lag in pay, last Thursday was the last paycheck. I'm more than ok going without numerous paychecks, especially knowing that I will receive back pay. I know a lot of people who, while making good money, make sure they raise their spending to meet/exceed their income. So, they have chosen to live paycheck to paycheck, and they are starting to freak out. I doubt any lessons will be learned; they rarely are. 🤷‍♂️

In the meantime, while I still have to report to work, all I'm doing now is modifying the contracts and orders to push back deliveries and service events into the second quarter (beginning in January). It's disrupting timelines for all the units in the Guard, but what can we do?

At least Congress is getting paid. I've been really concerned about them.

If I were in charge of the Democrats, I would seriously consider using the momentum of yesterday's election to gain traction on this shutdown.

Why not issue a statement that they cannot continue to stand by and see Americans continue to suffer because of this stalemate. Thus - they will get the CR bill through the Senate so the government can open back up.

Then in their statement list the top 5 items that will create the most empathy by the public/voters.

Also in their statement that they will take their Republican counterparts up on their offer to extend the Obamacare subsidies for one year.

Also in their statement - with the mid-terms coming in 1 year's time, it will be up to the Republicans now to demonstrate to America they are worthy of your vote in how these health care subsidy provisions are decided during the next year.

Because the dems dont have enough votes to accomplish anything in this sycophant congress unless it takes a super majority. We have this situation because congress has totally given in to the grifter in chief and the dems have nothing else left.

They can still take a message to the people. Call out Trump's grift, emphasizing how it hurts mainstream America. There's only one year until midterms, after all.

But with the right messaging, they might take both the house and senate in the midterms. I think that's what @Bazza is saying - if they play their cards right, it could pay off a year from now.

It's their only play right now as, as you mentioned, they cannot get anything done being the congressional minority.

But if history has shown us anything, they'll not seize the opportunity.

'Right messaging'? What more do the people need than looking back at trump 1.0?
Winning congress isn't about whether a voter likes Trump or not - it's whether they think congress (who is causing the shutdown, regardless on which side of the aisle you lay the blame) is the issue. Push the narrative Bazza mentioned and that may well help pick up more seats next fall.

Grifter in Chief? That’s hilarious on so many levels. Maybe he should’ve taken Don Jr with him to work some deals on his last trip abroad. lol, unbelievable.

What’s actually hilarious is pretending Trump isn’t grifting right now. In just the past nine months as president, he’s steered political and government business back into his own properties, blurred the line between governing and promoting his brand, and kept a “pay-for-access” setup where loyalty and cash buy proximity. He’s treating the Oval Office like a revenue stream for himself and his inner circle — not a job that’s supposed to serve the country.

And the moment any of that gets mentioned, the same move tends to show up: yell “Biden!” or drag Hunter into the conversation to avoid addressing Trump’s behavior on its own merits. If Trump were defensible based on what he’s doing in 2025, his defenders wouldn’t have to change the subject every time — but they always do.
