I know this is not completely about football, but I know this is the most read board and I would like to pass on some great news to those who haven't seen campus much lately.

Construction is going on everywhere! The Student Rec Center has completed most of its renovations and let me tell you, it is amazing. Extremely beautiful construction, with hundreds of shiny new machines, weights, etc, beautiful new basketball courts, and a resurfaced indoor track.

Bryant Hall is looking awesome. Shelby Hall is huge and very beautiful, wish I had class there. The School of Medicine building is finished and contstruction on new parking decks and dorms is coming along nicely. And a Child R&D Center is being built behind the Stallings Center (RISE).

I haven't heard how the renovations to Coleman Coliseum are going, but I am anxious to see what they do to the inside and to the new entrance.

The new football complex is awesome. Very appealing and beautiful; a great recruiting tool. Also, cannot wait to get the north endzone enclosed to BD.

Besides the contruction, students are very excited about this season. There just seems to be a good feeling in the air; optimism is very high and everyone is behind Coach Shula. I have class with some of the players and they are in good spirits and by the looks of it, in good shape as well.

It is a great time to be a UA student and fanatic. And from the feel of things, it is only getting better. ROLL TIDE!

I can only add to the enthusiasm of runtheoption. My son is headed down as an incoming freshman at UofA and everything has just been done first class.

All of the administration people and BamaBound students were top notch. And when you see the buildings going up around campus, you understand what a first class institution looks like. We toured other schools and campuses, and if you don't catch the excitement at Alabama you're already dead. He is so excited and I am also. I just wish I was 30 years younger..... :cool2:

I hope that the administration will increase the level of projects that benefit all of the students. Two things I would like to see is improvement of the lighting around campus and a redo of ten Hoor Hall. That place sees more studenst go in and out than any other building (maybe other than the Ferg) and is getting quite dumpy. Of course, I may be spoiled since I went to Samford for two years. I'll say this, I'm lucky to have been able to attend school at two of the most beautiful campuses in the country.

thanks for that update. being in texas, i don't make it to tuscaloosa too often at all. i did manage a trip for the OU game last year and couldn't believe the amount of additions that had been added to campus. it's unbelievable.

i agree that there is an awesome aura around the university. my first trip to campus to look at it as a senior in high school was astounding. to offer background to the story, i hadn't even consider the school (i grew up in maryland and didn't know anything about bama). we were on our way back home from another school and stopped off to check it out. i can still remember, it was a sunday night in nov. around 10:30 pm when we drove down university. we hadn't gotten out of the car nor talked to a soul. i looked at my mother and said "this is where i'm going to school". the feeling that swept over me at that moment is still with me today every time i go back to campus or even think about my time there. i was also lucky enough to be a freshman during the '92 season. i went from not knowing a thing about football to being able to talk about it/watch it for hours upon hours now.

here's to my love of college football and to the university of alabama, my home away from home. :biggrin2:

LitLbit,
Your experience in choosing the University sounds alot like a young lady from Texas who will be in this year's freshmen class. Her Dad is an OU grad who had been taking her to OU games for the last 15 years. Their family came to Tuscaloosa for the OU-BAMA game last fall. When they returned to Texas she told her Dad she wanted to go to Bama. Dad responded he could understand and agreed it would be a great choice. She was in freshmen orientation this last week.

mf627,
I'm not sure I would agree with your traffic count of ten Hoor. However, it is one of the 119 buildings on campus that will be part of the immediate $30 million in upkeep and renovations starting this year. There will be millions more spent on existing structures over the next few years with three more new dorms (in addition to the 3 just begun) completed by fall of 2006. The projects are already approved and financed. The sale of the $270 million in bonds took less than 4 hours and sold for three points less than anticipated. Combining all of this with the largest freshmen class in the last 16 years, the future looks bright for Alabama.

That darn Shelby Building took my parking area.

That was a heck of a good grass lot where they put that Shelby building. Hope we don't get like Georgia and keep building and leave no places for the fans to park.

I will say that it is an impressive building.

Lilbit,
I must admit that your story got me a little fired up. I started at Alabama in January of 1990 and finished in December of 1992. Those were very special years in my life. I am like a few of the other posters because I wish I could go back and get a do-over on my college years. I don't know if I could actually have any more fun, however. The University of Alabama is simply a special, special place. It didn't hurt that we only lost 1 game during my last two years. Roll Tide.

Nice read

Thanks for the report. And by the way, it has EVERYTHING to do with Crimson Tide Football!! RTR!!!

Thanks for the update. I graduated in 2002, when a lot of these projects were getting kicked off. It is amazing what progress has been made in those two years. Having seen pictures of the completed Shelby Hall, I am a bit jealous of those who now get to have class there! (For those of you who suffered along side me in Lloyd Rm. 38, you know what I'm talking about!) That is truly a beautiful building.

There are definitely some great things going on at The Capstone!

Thanks for sharing the great news!

My son heads for the Capstone in a few weeks (freshman, College of Engineering). It's wonderful to hear about all the new facilities on campus.

ROLL TIDE! It's great to be a member of the Alabama Family! :D

:biga:

Excellent thread

This is one of the best, most uplifting threads I have read in a long time. It is good to hear stories about how people love the University of Alabama. I was never a student at Alabama, but because of your stories I do feel more of a part of it. Thanks everyone. Roll Tide!!

things are looking great

i wish we had all that new stuff when i was an undergrad...oh well, at least i have two more years there to enjoy it. i can't wait to see the rec center, i've already enjoyed the water park (not to mention the scenery there...)

Glad y'all have enjoyed reading that. As far as those talking about ten Hoor Hall, it definitely needs some improvements, really because of the traffic. Every student has to go in there at some point over 4 years. I believe that is one of the reasons the Ferg got some improvements last fall. For those who haven't been in the new food court there, they have glass that has the elephant logo laser engraved on the glass and wallpaper that has the fight song on it!

And something else I forgot, the girl's soccer field is undergoing renovations. Looks very nice now and looks similar to the softball stadium entrance.
