Just heard that the barn is instituting a ticket price increase next year and the reason is to help bolster NIL. So the schools aren’t supposed to be involved in this? Tennessee has done the same.
If I am not wrong; I think those increases are to help fund the upcoming required revenue sharing for the schools to directly pay the athletes ?

I have a problem with asking fans, but My biggest problem is the manner in which it was asked. It looks a little pathetic. And I mostly have a favorable opinion of Greg Byrn
No, it looks a LOT pathetic. IMHO it confirms that we’ve become a second tier program when it comes to what’s necessary to compete on the current landscape of “college” athletics.

I’m not giving MORE money to pay for some 18 yr olds family to stay at The Capstone for a weekend while I’m sleeping on a couch at my daughter’s house…that I bought.
and I bought that so both of my kids could get through Bama…not sure if I’ll hang onto it for my son…he may go somewhere else now. 🥲
Edit…and that blows!!!
But it’s 250k that they’ll miss out on…maybe that’ll start to hurt.

The latest fad that really ticks me off is the automatic request for a tip at a counter for someone to do the job they are getting payed a full wage to do. It’s started popping up in all kinds of places that involve zero wait service. Lowest option usually starts at 20%. Nah, get bent. But I digress.
I recently got a donation request for my nephew’s travel baseball team…you COULD NOT opt out of tipping…on a freaking donation!!! I didn’t do it…

So ESPN is paying the SEC, starting this year and running for ten years....$300 million annually for TV rights. What team is on TV the most? NOTE: SEC was only getting $55 million annually from CBS.

How much of this does Bama get? Is it just equally paid to all SEC schools, something like $21.4 to each school....or is it based on how many times a school is on TV?

Of course, typing this, the amount is a drop in the bucket.

Crowd funding NIL from the general Bama fan public is even a smaller drop in the bucket. Its ridiculous. I certainly don't have enough disposable income to burn by giving it to kids that can just transfer whenever they feel like it.

This whole thing is really not sitting well.....from LANK....the University licensing LANK to include the script A in it....LANK paying players....Mbakwe getting courted by Ole Miss when he wasn't even in the portal....now Byrne asking me for money to fund this crap......

The adults let it get here....and here we are.....the whole landscape is a mine field. I've been priced out of this for years already....now....you just keep pushing, and a lot of us are about to check out from the sport entirely, outside of passing interest.

When NIL started I thought it just meant a player could get paid for doing a commercial or something like that. It seems like they just give players money now.
That's literally all it's supposed to be. All this pay-for-play is a bastardization of the rule and its intent.
It literally could have been just for this very thing, but the NCAA rushed the rule change and did not put any guardrails in place because they were scared of litigation.

Gotta get the NFL version of a salary cap that is standardized across the sport.

OR else rich people just buy/build championship teams. It will destroy the sport without some guardrails. Right now we've got two wheels off the side of a steep incline!

When I saw the email from Byrne yesterday, I just rolled my eyes and hit DELETE. I will not not be donating my money to buy some player why has never stepped foot on a field wearing Crimson, and has no loyalty to the team. Now, if a player comes to Bama and excels on the field, I may buy a jersey or shirt with their name on it knowing they will get some kickback from it. To me, that it what NIL should be.

Look, I get it. I played college football in the mid 90's, but not for Bama. Being raised by a single mom, I understand how it feels to try and figure out how to get $20 to last a week. But I never had to want for food, shelter, clothing or transportation. And I got my education paid for. To me, that is part of the college experience. Figuring out how to be an adult. I WISH I'd have had NIL opportunities. I'd have been husting to make every $ I could. These players today are just being handed thousands of dollars and haven't earned a dime!

I understand the sentiment from the overwhelming majority.

At the same time this is the new landscape. It’s either get on board, or get left behind, right?

I love the U of A. There has to be a plan to keep up.
Let me tell you where this ends if this is their plan...

UA is getting left behind.

At this point, I'm guessing the only way not to get left behind or lapped so to speak.....start courting some wealthy investors and putting their brand names on everything.

Cause we aren't getting in rules in place anytime soon.....if we need money go find some investors and sell them what they might be able to get as a return on their investment.

Bama is on TV more than any team....selling point 1.

I don't disagree with the opinions here, but understand we will be left behind.

We are going to be a victim of our past success because our fans don't want to pay for this.

But be sure, the other teams and fans will pay, they are desperate for what we have enjoyed.
