As the backup quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Carroll graduate Greg McElroy knows it’s only a matter of time until he’s the starter for arguably college football’s most storied program and its unprecedented 12 national championships.

“It’s going to bring a newfound pressure to my game,” McElroy said. “It’s going to be tough at first, and obviously I’m going to have some butterflies the first time I start warming up to go into the game. I think about that moment every time I’m working out. That’s what gets me through. I’m just thinking about that first time I go onto that field with that crimson jersey on and the crimson helmet with my number on the side. It’ll be a special feeling.”

McElroy seems to be a great kid. I am glad to read that the team was excited about getting Saban just as much as the fans.
Glad to see that he respects the tradition!!

Some may not agree but watching the A-Day game I thought McElroy looked much more polished and fluid than Wilson. He just seems to have that natural QB poise. Reminded me of Brodie dropping back with protection when he completed a long ball. It was a thing of beauty. Wilson seems a little rough to me. Thats just my opinion and its not worth much. Either way Im proud to have them both.

McElroy is going to be a good one.

I hope nothing happens to JPW, but I believe the QB position is in great hands should something happen to him.

I've been hearing that Fanuzzi will push him a bit. And that's good, because this regime will play the best player, no matter the pedigree, who recruited him, and all the other contaminants...

I know on NCAA '08 GM is just as good, or in my opinion better, than JPW. I like how both of the QB's we have come from winning HS programs. These guys won't accept losing. They are not used to it. RTR!!

The Planning & Analysis Manager where I work is a Miami Hurricane Alumni. He told me that Fanuzzi will push for playing time very shortly. He's a very mobile qb and many alums HATED to lose this kid.

I'm going on what friends, coaches, have observed in the skels. They have been very, very impressed with his arm strength, comparing it to Brodie's. We're entering an interesting period. I'm glad I'm above dirt to see it. Several years ago, when Bama FB was about at the bottom of the shaft, Billy Neighbors remarked to me that he and I might not be around long enough to see us come back (we're about a month apart in age). Well, I think we just might get to see it...! :D

At a recent Madison County Bar Association meeting, we had Coach Kines speak and I sat between Billy and Keith. Felt sort of like the filling in a sandwich... :D

Fanuzzi was underrated, IMO. When he committed to Miami early in the process, he got overlooked. His improvement (on film) from junior year to senior year was very impressive.

yeah, its hard to imagine a guy good enough to make the army all american game is only good enough to be a three star. He looked good in the AA game too.

You need to hang entirely tough there boss. We should be deep enough at the QB with a junior, redshirt freshman, and the invited walk-on to redshirt the true freshman.

Maybe someday you and Billy Neighbors can sit and talk to each other about watching Wesley Neighbors under-sized at 230lbs. son play cornerback for the University.

Continue with the breathing exercises.

I'm also hearing that JPW also is still significantly ahead in throwing to a spot, as opposed to the man. The others are still throwing behind the receiver some...

I got lost when you said "throwing to the man". I thought you meant "The Man" as in "The Man is keeping me down".

Sorry. The 6 month old woke up early this morning. It's been a long morning!

I am glad to hear about Fanuzzi being better than advertised, but I really think McElroy will be a solid back-up this year and push Wilson for the starting job next year. Like several of you have already said, competition will make everyone better. I have tried to enjoy my summer and not look ahead too much, but I am really starting to get pumped for some football.
