Guillon takes a shot

If this was coming from someone else I wouldn't believe it. Why were we not told this before he was canned? Or is this just piling on?

not trying to be a smart ***** but, where have you been for the last year. I've been hearing this for a long time. And it was quite obvious by his actions or lack there of with Juwan Simpson.

Folks, don't be deceived...that part of what he's saying is true. Sadly enough, some of the players you hear talking are part of that "favorite group."

When Brodie was on campus he used to show up late to all the meetings...other players would, and then get chewed out by Shula. Never happened to Brodie.

So, what did they do? Showed up late, but made sure they were walking in with Brodie...literally daring Shula to say something.

I can't blame them. You couldn't count on two hands and your toes the times Shula had meetings set, sometimes with our leadership guys/seniors, and didn't show up as well.

Again, discipline problems leading to other problems...

Solid assessment TP. Cracking down on a player with an ego is an easy fix. Most coaches build a mole hill into a mountain. The very first player who thinks he is all that and a bag of chips is serverely punished. (1) The first SEC game, not some ULL game suspension, (2) study time in the coaches office at 5AM every morning and if he feels he can't, walk his sorry butt to the door and give the scholarship to someone who is dying to play for Alabama.

You nailed it, Terry. All you say is true. The BC showing up late thing would tick off many on the team. Loss of control and loss of the team brought MS down.

As much as we would like to think Coach Bryant was perfect he admitted to making a few mistakes along the way.

Oh, I know he wasn't perfect. However he control over the programs not only football but the others as well.
Some of the mistakes he made would not be allowed today. When Coach Bryant was making his mistakes, there was no internet, the papers that covered BAMA knew bettter than to bring up his discreations, if they did , they were no longer able to cover the teams.
I never meant to imply that Coach was perfect, far from it, but he did administer discipline in a way that was fair and it was administered no matter the player...Something that is lacking today, just my opinion...

I'm going to make a statement that --up front -- I know will be unpopular. I'm not going to spar over it, so if you flame me, just know I'm throwing this out there for everyone to chew on.

1. We're pretty much all willing to admit that Shula had discipline problems.
2. We've heard that Shula plays favorites. Right or wrong, some pointed to Capps over Tatum and Darby over Johns as proof. Many posters were willing to accept this as truth as well.

IF 1 & 2 are TRUE, then Shula's evaluation of every other offensive player on the team is suspect. That is to say, IF Shula played favorites at, say, TE, then who's to say Shula didn't play favorites at, say, LG? Once an evaluator has been shown to be biased, then logic dictates that the entire evaluation system -- and the products of the evaluation system (including the ranking by position) -- are suspect. Perhaps Shula did have the "true" #1 guy as the #1 guy at certain positions while having (maybe) the "true" #2 guy as the #1 guy at other positions. Regardless, the entire 2-deep roster on the offensive side of the ball should now be in question.

IF 1 & 2 are FALSE, then it is clear we fired Shula only for his win-loss record, which drops our "high road" down to the "low road."

Whoever the new coach is, I want him to have a true competition (blank slate) at EVERY position (offense and defense). The cream will rise to the top.

Not on this board. Shula was praised for handling problems (i.e. Simpson) internally and not bowing down to media pressure etc etc. There was NEVER a complaint on here about Shula and discipline, at least not from a mod

Most people who know of the off-field issues have hinted at them for several years now...

This has been going on for years. My uncle who played at Bama in the 60's said coach the staff played favorites back then. If your family had connections/donated money your chance at PT was greater.... In the 90's the same crap went down under Stallings. THe PK Holder was 1 example... His daddy played in the 60's and was friends of Moore, Stallings, Bro etc. No other reason he played than that. (That came from 2 starters....)

IMHO we need a coach who was the balls to tell the powers that be players play based on ability and ability only. Then, he needs to tell the players you will go to class, workout and be on time for meetings.... If he has to can 1/2 the team so be it.....

Imagine how CMS would have been with Tebow had he came to the Capstone!

So Brodie coming in late for meetings = 10-2 season

Maybe JPW showed up on time for all the meetings and we get a 6-6 season??

or did Brodie's actions cause the 6-6 season?

I knew it was all that skinny kids fault.....

Just think how you would feel if your boss played favorites over you. I know I sure wouldn't like it. Maybe some of the offensive line didn't get the favortism that Darby got and that is why there wasn't any blocking when he was in, because it seemed holes opened up when Johns was in IMO. Also maybe that's why Brodie got sacked so much last year. I know I would probably feel that way. :)

Playing favorites is garbage--but that doesn't change the fact that Marc Guillon is the epitome of "loser." What a clown.
