FSU Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn Announces Surprising Retirement
Florida State will promote from within to replace Malzahn.
I think once the extra official was added whose main job is to make sure both teams get time to sub it ended his "gotch scheme."I’m sure he’ll resurface as a burr in our saddle somewhere.
Vested in FL retirement system?Odd timing
I'd be interested to know what was the catalyst for that decision.
That and having ineligible receivers downfield.I think once the extra official was added whose main job is to make sure both teams get time to sub it ended his "gotch scheme."
Before then, they could go as fast as they wanted and that was his advantage.
Yes, that was part of the chaos. The game was happening faster than the refs could get in position. That and having ineligible receivers downfield.
Odd timing

More time for Christy and Gus to dine out at IHOP.Interesting.
More time to chew gum!
the refs were as much responsible for that gimmick offense as the play callers.I never understood why the official who marks the ball felt compelled to run do it so fast during those years.
Until you said this, I was thinking he hadn't been in FL that long as FSU OC. Then I remembered he was HC at UCF - I'd completely forgotten he was HC there. Shows how much of a lack of impact he had there.Vested in FL retirement system?
Plus the fact the barn is prolly still paying him a salaryThe timing may be odd, but the decision itself doesn't surprise me. I wonder if Gus got to a point (like Nick did) that he wasn't interested in coaching the game as it is today. The guy basically has to reteach his entire offense every season because of all the transfers in and out. At some point that's got to get old. Also, he's at that age where it's a great time to get out, especially seeing the current landscape of college football. He should be set for life in the money department and if wanted to still stay apart of the game, could go into broadcasting or being an analyst. The demands are nothing that of a coach.
Yeah, they couldn’t even pull off a People’s National Championship under him.Until you said this, I was thinking he hadn't been in FL that long as FSU OC. Then I remembered he was HC at UCF - I'd completely forgotten he was HC there. Shows how much of a lack of impact he had there.
Timing probably related to contract
Glad we dont have to deal with him again!
