Trump says Palestinians should leave Gaza permanently and US will ‘take over’ strip

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the US “will take over” the Gaza Strip, after saying earlier that he doesn’t think there is a permanent future for Palestinians in Gaza.

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said during a joint press conference alongside his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings.”

Asked whether he was willing to send US troops to fill a security vacuum in Gaza, Trump did not rule it out.

“As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary. If it’s necessary, we’ll do that. We’re going to take over that piece that we’re going to develop it,” he said.

Trump’s comments are a remarkable assertion from a sitting American president, particularly one who rose to political power in the United States through his criticism of America’s longest wars in the Middle East.

“I do see a long-term ownership position, and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East, and maybe the entire Middle East,” Trump told reporters in the East Room.

“This was not a decision made lightly. Everybody I’ve spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land, developing and creating thousands of jobs with something that will be magnificent.”

While I'm still thinking this proposal over, I'm willing to bet that there are people he hasn't talked to who don't love the idea so much.

What could go wrong with developing Gaza ?

Just unbelievable we elected this moron once, much less twice.

We couldn't get out Afghanistan fast enough but we won't to go into Gaza and try to develop it...

How many Trump supporters are starting to back into the shadows? I'm already seeing it in my circles.

We will probably do a “minor incursion” into Gaza. That seems to work.

Just what we need, get involved in more nation building in the mid east. 'The Riviera of the Mid-East'
How long until he backs off this ridiculous proposal?

It's obviously not going to happen. Just another example of Trump ruminating out loud. Where others mull things in their mind first and then maybe run the ideas past trusted advisors, Trump just puts it out there and waits for the reaction.

I mean, they knew exactly what they were getting. Trump 2.0 is bat guano cray cray.

And everyone said restating the obvious was out-of-touch: You can't fix stupid.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what Trump is doing here. Is he serious or is this some sort of trolling he's doing? How much input did Israel have on this if he is serious? And if he isn't, what was the point of all this? The only thing I can think of is that Trump is moving too fast for his detractors to keep up. Just when the Dems and the MSM got their feet under them to start a counter to the USAID issue, Trump changes direction and talks about something else, forcing everyone else to do the same.

I'm not one to give Trump (or really any politician) a ton of credit, but he does seem to understand that all he has to do is pull the bright red ball out of his pocket and throw it into high-speed traffic and his enemies will go chasing after it without so much as a pause. I dunno, maybe it's because there is no dignity left in American politics, but this is starting to feel like a Road-Runner cartoon.

You're probably right. He has no filter or impulse control, aka childish. Whatever rattles around in that head of his can be blurted out at any time with no restraint.

This is what I tried to tell my wife last night when she was asking me if I had heard the half dozen or more stupid things he has been saying recently.

After 4 years of his constant nonsense, nothing he says really surprises me.

Refreshing to have a president who gives us an opportunity to know what's on his mind - without teleprompters - without notes - right off the top of his head - on a variety of subjects put forth by the press.

Especially including this topic.....which really is so important but has been essentially put on the back burner.

Still NOT refreshing to have a president who formented an insurrection to illegally stay in office, is in it for himself, flaunts the laws and standards, is a convicted felon, who's primary motivation is self gain, etc, etc, etc.
Our standards as a nation suck!

That's a shame!

The Israeli Air Force executed a precise strike in Sidon, Lebanon, targeting Mohammad Shaheen, the head of Hamas’ operations in the country. Shaheen was killed in the attack, which took place amidst a fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah, just before Israel’s withdrawal deadline from southern Lebanon on February 18, 2025.
