I'd take Eric Gagne

Astros still lead Cubs 9-1. Miller working on 2 hitter through 7 with 10 K's. Sosa has fanned three straight times coming off the DL.

Houston changes pitchers to start the 8th.

Garner strikes out and he and Wells both compliment the ump on his stellar work

Pac grounds out.
Hearod walks.
Hearod goes to 2B on wild pitch.
Welch walks.

1st/2nd, 2 out for Beagle.

Chris Stewart just said that they talked to a couple there who was on their way to Gulf Shores for vacation and got to Thomasville and hung a right to College Station instead!

Gagne is good, but basically a fast ball pitcher. Smoltz has three nasty pitches. Fastball, split and slider. Anyone of them anytime. Nasty. Simply nasty. I'll take John any day over any closer, now or in the past. Even Goose Gossage could not bring the stuff Smoltz does. No one throws harder with the movement on his fastball and then comes and digs a hole in the ground with that split or breaks a righthanded hitter's back with that slider like big John. I have saw all the closers come along since way back in like 1962 when Bud Daily closed for the Yanks and big Dick Radatz closed for the Red Sox. None of em were any better at closing than Smoltz. None.

Tidefan in North Carolina, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Internet broadcast is delayed. I am listening on the radio.

JEB, I was just messing with you on the Gagne comment. I'd take Smoltz as well. I'm a BoSox fan first, Braves fan second (even though ATL is the worst sports city EVER.) RTR
