How about starting GM for ULM?? ( Not a JPW bash thread)

Now this isn't your typical bash JPW thread, so hear me out.

Here's an idea..
I figure we can beat ULM with pretty much any QB, so why not tell JPW that he's had a rough two weeks, and he's being benched. Then you start GM and Bama will win.

Then, for the Barn game, you announce JPW as the starter--no matter how GM performs in the ULM game, and if he struggles, then you'll feel better about putting GM in the game.

I mean, you don't kill JPW's confidence, and GM gets some experience.
Who knows what a benching would do for JPW. It might help, but then, you're not really benching him per se, because you have every intention of playing him in the Auburn game.

Yeah, it's pretty out there, and probably stupid, but why not?

I dont know about that, but it would be possible I guess to split up play time almost evenly. Give JPW the first quarter and then let him rest the rest of the game. Split up the rest of the game between GM and Fanzunni.

Hey, JPW lost total confidence in himself today. Any athlete, whether a QB, starting pitcher, or free throw shooting extraordinaire, relies on his confidence to propel him to success at times.

The drive in which JP threw away the ball three straight times was a clear indicator that the kid was afraid to mess up. I wasn't there, and we didn't get a replay of all three plays, but DJ Hall was open downfield on 1st down of the possession. JPW didn't see him/look for him/react to his openness. That's a lack of confidence. At that point, the coach needs to sit him for the next series, let the backup get his lunch handed to him a time or two, that way the starter can see from the sidelines what is going on.

Why so much loyalty to QB's? Are these coaches these days so afraid to damage a kids' psyche that they will let him stay out there and die? McElroy COULD NOT HAVE DONE WORSE, at that time of the game.

One series of JP sitting out watching is likely all it would take.

I think at this stage in the game worrying about one player's confidence over the betterment of the team is out the window. You start who you think will give you the best chance to win. If CNS still thinks it's JPW then he should start. If not then GM needs to start and if it hurts JPW's confidence then so be it.

Anyone else feel like benching JPW after the last two game is basically punishing him for two of his starting OL being suspended?

You can't blame the O-Line for EVERY mistake he has made the past few games! On the series that he threw the ball 10 yards out of bounds three straight times, he had plenty of time. I know he gets pressured but what QB doesn't. JPW just doesn't handle it worth a flip. And those guys weren't suspended when he had bad games against UGA and FSU either, so IMO, that's not a good reason for his recent performance.

IMO GM starts the balance of the year; clearly JPW has ZERO confidence in himself and as much as I hate to say it... The barn is going to tee off on any QB we have... specifically Groves. I watched GM at the spring game and followed him throughout his HS career as I live in Dallas... and I know HS football is not the SEC; but he is from one of the premier HS programs in the country... South Lake Carrol. We gave him a scholarship... give the kid a chance to perform. (Chase Daniel; QB at Missouri is from the same HS as GM).

It is time for a change; JPW should not play the balance of the year.

It was tough, really tough to see JPW make mistakes yesterday, but if the move to sit him down was going to happen, it didn't and I doubt it will happen.

  • Eventually you would think GM will be the starter.
  • We're well on track to being spanked by the barn with yesterday's performance.
  • GM needs to get some "Big Game Experience"
So if you give him some snaps in two weeks what's the worst that could happen? We loose to cow college? I say give the guy a chance. Not the whole game, a chance.

Look, I am as disappointed as the next Bama fan, but if you sit Wilson for the ULM game, then there is no way that you can go back to him for the Iron Bowl. Yeah, his offensive line was a patchwork line yesterday, but the kid has got to stop throwing the ball to the other team! I think that you have to start JPW against ULM, let the kid work out of the funk from the MSU game, and then sub in GM in the second half. If what Jess says is true, and the Textbook 5 will be back for 'Barn, then we can still win that game.

Why can't you? Is he going to refuse to go in? He needs to be bench if it's for the sole reason of getting his attention. He cost us the game yesterday. 14 pts was directly related to int's.

You can't go back to him because there will be no shot of him having any confidence at that point, and then we are looking at mistakes. His confidence is shakey (duh!) and they need to let him work through it during the ULM game.

He had none yesterday nor most of this year. It's time for JPW to dig deep within himself and either pull it together or sit down. He's been on this campus four years now and he's not a wide eyed true freshman. The improvement he needs can't come from the coaches but within himself. Mental toughness ultimately is a decision by the individual not a coach. JPW folds under pressure and can't dig himself out. That was painfully obvious yesterday, in the LSU game and in any game where he's gotten a little pressure. There comes a time where it's sink or swim. He needs to start swimming or grab a clipboard and let someone else give it a go.

QB's and Kickers are headcases. If JPW is benched then his confidence will be shot. It would be better to let JPW know that GM will get more playing time against ULM, than to just bench him. Right now, McElroy is our only true backup at the QB position. Messing with our depth would jeapordize our teams ability to win the rest of the games on our schedule.

His confidence left on the 4:15 train out of Starkville. Beating on an inferior La. Monroe team will only mask the problems, and ... if he were to have a poor game, what confidence would he gain for Auburn anyway? I'm all for seeing what GM can do.
