How have we done head 2 head with AU in recruiting thus far

I know there are still several recruits on the fences, but how have we done thus far in head to head recruiting? To be truthful Auburn has really outrecruited us for the past 5 or 6 years. I realize we have had major issues but the fact remains that they have not only beaten us in recruiting but have really elevated their recruiting on a national level. I think we are getting there and this year could be the year to get us over the hump. Have we closed the gap?

What gap? If you look at how the two major recruiting analyst sites have ranked the two programs the last few years, we're either pretty close or we have had a slight lead, even with the sanctions. Now that we have a full plate of scholarships to offer, I expect to see Bama close out the 2006 class by getting every player both Alabama and Auburn want. We are currently 4-to-1 on heads up battles with them, and when Andre puts on the Script A hat, we'll easily have a Top 5 class.

Of the ones who have said, "this is a Bama/Barn battle"....we have received commitments from: Pharr, Ross, and McCoy. The Barn has Terrell Zachery.

Ricks, Alexander, and Goggans are current ones who have Bama and Barn in their top 2 or 3.

Wow...we recruited on par with or better than the Barn the last few years and they've beaten us the last 4 years? And yet our OL is still inexperienced and the Barn reloads? You must think poorly of our coaching staff's ability after they get the recruit. I think you had better go back and review those recruiting analyst sites.

Well, we have generally had the same quality starters at most positions. However, they have enjoyed the luxury of much better depth at just about all positions due to our scholly losses.

That's not what he said. He stated that we have recruited the same as, or better than, the Barn even with sanctions.

Point taken, but the star rating is only a quality avererage of the players you sign, I think we have gotten a similar names, just not similar numbers.

Im not sure of the exact numbers in scholly losses, but they have been able to take four or five more quality players every year, and that has been the difference. Think if we had been able to sign those four or five extra kids over the past few years you might have seen a totally different offensive line in the Iron Bowl.

I really don't see how anyone can say there is not a gap between Auburn and Alabama right now. Personally, I believe this is the year we "turn the tide" so to speak as far as recruiting. But to completely turn the perception of Alabama around we need another solid season that inlcudes a defeat of Auburn. Then when we follow this years recruiting class with another stellar one, I believe "We Will Be Back". The funny thing about Auburn is this. I believe, perception wise especially outside this state, it takes them beating us 4 or 5 years in a row for them to be recognized as the best program in Alabama. All it takes for Bama is one victory and Auburn has to start over at square one. We need that victory next year. But until we do, all we can talk about is closing the gap. Because, frankly, there is nothing else to discuss if we don't.

I'm referring to the years in which Mike Shula has been the head coach during recruiting season. Those years are 2004, 2005 and the soon-to-be signed class of 2006.

In 2004, Rivals.com had Bama at #15, the Barn at #21. In 2005, Bama was #13, they were #18. This year, we're neck and neck so far.

The reason Auburn has beaten us on the field for 4 straight is directly attributable to the shambles Dubose left this program in, plus franphoney's inept recruiting of linemen, PLUS the NCAA sanctions, PLUS Mike Price's dismal 2003 class.

Auburn's window of opportunity has now been closed. I've been pounding that drum on this site for the last year. It is showing up now in recruiting, and it will show up later on the field.

As for my opinions regarding what the staff does with the talent once it's in the door: I have almost every confidence. There is one unit that I have concerns about, and that horse has been beaten to death elsewhere.

Bama also lost DL Bart Eddins to Auburn but that was a foregone conclusion.
I agree, we never had Bart to begin with, Dad and brother played at Allbarn! Shula may have offered just to have it out there just in case!

In 2002 Rivals had Auburn ranked 6 and Bama not in the top 25. In 2003 Auburn was ranked 11 by Rivals and Bama was not in the top 25. In 2004 Rivals had Bama ranked 15 and Auburn 21. In 2005 Rivals had Auburn ranked 13 and Bama 18. Over the past 4 years Rivals has Auburn ahead 3 of the 4 years with 2 of the years Bama not being in the top 25. In this case i don't really understand your logic of how Bama has recruited on the same level as Auburn.

Auburn recruiting was by far the biggest benefactor of Bama's pre and post probationary penalties. I say pre and post because the damage began two years before sanctions were imposed. The speculation might've arguably been worse on Bama recruiting than the sanctions. The sanctions also contributed to coaching instability, which hurt Bama and helped Auburn tremendously.

For Auburn fans to look back upon their school's recruiting success between 2000-2003 and the coincident increase in on field success and not believe it was largely attributable to Alabama's incapacitation is to ignore the obvious. RTR.

Auburn outrecruited us Pre 2003 (Fran and Probation), but since Shula has gotten here, I think it's safe to say that Bama has recruited on par or ahead of the barners.
