IMO, if we are to stand a chance in this Iron Bowl, we need to show Auburn some looks on Offense that will throw them off and put the ball in the hands of the few remaining playmakers we have left. I highly doubt that running Darby up the middle on every play is going to win this game. We need Prothro to touch the ball, alot. If that means running him at QB more than 2 or 3 times, so be it. Although Coach Shula has admitted to not being a fan of the trick play, I think we need to at least try some misdirection plays to nuetralize their speed on Defense. We need to do everything but throw the kitchen sink at them with formations that will confuse them.

We also need to play a flawless game to stand a chance. Interceptions, holding calls, and poor special team play are killing our momentum the last few weeks. Bama can't afford to let Auburn get an advantage in this game becuase of OUR careless mistakes.

Bottom line, our guys are going to have play some super football to beat this team. We have the Defense to at least curb, not stop, their Offense. If we can pick up a score with our D and get the field position advantage, we may be able to at least keep it close going into the 4th. Then it comes down to heart and who wants it more, and as much as this team has been through together, they are due. Big time. ROLL TIDE

Good post and great observations. This will truly be a test for our banged up team, but win or lose horribly, they have earned my respect and gratitude this year.

I like your attitude....

What we have to realize is winning never happens when we look at things negatively. Yes we are being realistic given the circumstances...but I think its time we had OUR version of "Punt Bama Punt".

Nobody looks back at a win they should have gotten and did....legend is made of wins that weren't expected. It's about teams rising to the occassion...leaving it all on the field.

Let me tell you something...come what may...I love this team...I love their heart...I love the Crimson Tide of Alabama!

I agree with you in many ways! We could also use LeRon catching a few balls out of the backfield which has been very good to us recently. A catch or two by a tightend would be a bonus.
However, I would like to say that Alabama can win this football game by doing what it does best; run the football. If we can't run the football we don't have a prayer. Do we need to add a wrinkle, throw on first down, get the ball to Prothro a little more, absolutely. But the bottom line, like it or not, we are one of the best running teams in America and must not get too far away from that. If we can consistently run the ball against Auburn, they will become extremely impatient and become doubtful. There is nothing more frustrating to a top rated team than have another team consistently get 4, 5, 6, yards. Shove it down their throats!!! That's my feeling. Of course Bama may come out and throw 40 times and win and then I'd say, what do I know about football?
No matter, I will always stand behind Alabama football. This team is due some success and rewards!

I think....

I think you guys are giving too much credit to Auburn. Sure they are a good team, but not as good as some of you guys are making it out to be.

I was looking at how we played against LSU in the first half, and thought we excuted our gameplan very well. Make no mistake. LSU stopped our running game from the get-go, but we still managed to move the chain. We need to do the exact same thing against Auburn. The most important thing is playing to our strength while attacking their weaknesses. We need to keep pounding the ball even when it's not working and play a good field position battle. We did just that against LSU and got 10 points in the first half (could have been 14 points). Unfortunately that freak call completely turned the game upside down. If not for that call, I think we might be talking a little differently today about Auburn.

I still believe in our defense. I still believe that our defense has yet to play their best game. And I believe that that game will come this Saturday at home against our in-state rival. I believe that Coach Shula will come up with a gameplan that will give us the best chance to win just like he did against LSU and Tennessee. And I believe that if we win the field position battle, we will win the game.

The barners can be beat. Let's play our game and see what happens. If mistakes happen, forget them. We'll need a great effort from the team. They know this and I really expect us to play a complete game. Thanks to the entire team. RTR

I like to see Prothro get more involved, and also i like to see more TE passes to McClain and alittle swing pass to DARBY with McClain leading the way.

It was to obvious when we was down in the LSU game, what we was fixing to do before the play was snapped.

3 runs or 2 runs & 1 throw(on 3rd)-(punt) is over rated.....obvious.

Auburn is by far the best team we will see all year so I think that giving them credit for being one of the best teams in the country is not out of place. However, Bama can beat this Auburn team if we play mistake free hard nose football. It's going to take:

Our Defense containing their running game. We won't completely stop them but we at least have to keep Carnell and Co. in check. Our DL has to put pressure on Campbell. We need him to at least make a few mistakes and maybe force him into some bad throws which also means our Secondary is going to have to play very aggressive in coverage.

Our OL has to get control of the LOS. We need to dominate the line and give Darby some running room. We may dive deep into the playbook on Saturday to show them some stuff they haven't seen which means Prothro may see alot of action in alot of different places. We can't afford for Spencer to be off and make bonehead mistakes. If the receivers aren't open, throw it away please.
