Howard Stern...........No Big Loss.

Several stations are dropping Stern due to
the Janet Jackson fallout, no pun intended.
Without the fact that Stern is a perverted
neanderthal, his show stinks plain & simple.
I have in the past seen a few minutes of
it and found no entertainment value at all.

Aside from the fact that some people like
vulgarity and all things similar what is
the redeeming entertainment value ??

I'm glad that Rush came out on this.

I just can't figure out why any conservative would welcome ANY increase in the power of the government, regardless of the reason. Precedent is a powerful thing and if the scope of the government's power increases now, what will happen when liberals gain control of the federal government again? That is one reason that I have reservations about the Patriot Act and other "emergency" measures which NEVER go away when the supposed emergency is history.

Of course Rush is right, as much as it irks me to say it. His reasoning is simple: if a slime like Stern has no rights today, then neither will you tomorrow.

Of course, Clear Channel dropping Stern is not censorship. It's a business making a business decision based on $$ or ethics or whatever else they're basing it on. So HS is free to put out his (ahem) "art", and Clear Channel is free to choose not to put it on their stations. At least, I hope that's still the case...

I was under the impression that this came about as part of Clear Channel's new guidelines for their programming. Most of our stations here are owned by Clear Channel and I think it was a good move. It was so bad that I could not let my daughter listen to the radio and there were some stations I would not even listen to. Body parts, bathroom humor, and sexual references get real old after a while, especially when that's all they ever talk about. I guess it was originally done to be shocking and see how far they could go, but when just about everyone is doing it, it just seems silly and immature.

The government getting involved is an entirely separate issue.

I didn't care much for them either but I don't like their replacements any better and I can't stand Outlaw Dave "for your ride home". Their programming only consists of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and some new garbage that you would hear on 94.5, that is when someone isn't talking incoherently and they aren't playing commercials.

Paul Finebaum just signed a new contract with Clear Channel. I have heard material that could be considered racial on his show before. One time, Jessie Jackson was speaking at a church in Montgomery and Paul had someone staked out there with a cell phone and he was supposed to let the audience listen in to the speech. The cell phone could not quit pick up the audio so Finebaum put on the "I have a dream speech" as filler to whatever Jessie was preaching. I thought it was funny but instantly knew that it was going to offend.

If this was to happen post Janet Jackson, would Paul be the next to go? Plus he gets into some honest if not quit ready for primetime discussions on racial issues sometimes. It's refreshing but I worry about some caller letting loose the "N" word like what happened to Stern(Who I do not like).

I see jocks like Paul Finebaum increasing there delay's a few more seconds in the future.

What upset Rush was the suspicion that Clear Channel dumped Stern in response to FCC huffing and puffing.

1. FCC chairman had just gone on a tear about bad air language, when:

2. Janet Jackson did her Super Bowl strip, and:

3. Her act was followed by huge public and FCC uproar with a broadcaster hauled in to testify, and:

4. Stern was dumped, leaving everyone to wonder if:

5. Congressmen seeking votes would get into the act with bills to further restrict broadcasting.

6. Now we're talking about real censorship.

Dude, any station that plays AC/DC, Zeppelin, and especially Van Halen(up until the 1984 album) is good in my book!
