I see you (Auburn) hiding in the weeds. Thoughts on Iron Bowl 2023

Our guys must be careful they don't fall into the trap Auburn did by looking ahead. It's easy to just focus on Georgia and to think now that we'll beat Auburn by just showing up at JHS.
Not sensing that this team is looking ahead at all. If you don’t overlook UK or The Mocs, I doubt they overlook Auburn

Truth, but this team knows they've gotten their one 'allowable' mulligan. If getting left out in 2022 doesn't get their attention, then nothing will.

I'm curious: How many of you thought Auburn looked ahead to Alabama during the practice week? I didn't get the vibe related to that. I just thought that Auburn was exactly what I thought they were. This was a team that should've been playing well this season and instead it's a roster filled with lot of questions everywhere. Auburn simply does not have enough weapon to keep up with Alabama. They will try and go fast on Auburn and make them play catch up.

I think it is both - they have spent too much time preparing for Alabama AND they suck.

I don't think I've seen Hugh do something similar like this before. Maybe he was confident, but I'll have to go back and listen to his interview from yesterday.

update: Hugh Freeze blames Auburn's lack of effort in shocking loss to New Mexico State (247sports.com)

Interesting, it sounds like the players didn't try hard. Similar to situation against USF.

ON HOW PRACTICE WAS AND IF THERE WAS ANY INDICATION OF THE PERFORMANCE:
“Not as good. Not as good if I’m being truthful. I mean, I thought Tuesday was okay. I thought Wednesday and Thursday were not up to par for sure. But now I don't want to sit here and not give credit to New Mexico State some too. I mean, they’re very confident. Jerry (Kill) is a heck of a football coach. They had the right calls at the right time. They milked the clock. I mean, I bet we didn't have 40 offensive plays between the penalties that kept killing ourselves with that and them controlling the clock. So give them credit for that. But the effort we had was not what Auburn deserves.”
Then I found this part interesting:
I thought our receivers ran routes in slow motion tonight. Did not get out of their breaks at the top end and we didn't protect well. It was just — there's nothing positive that I can say about tonight.” “We had 15 plays at halftime and of those three possessions I think we had penalties in every one of them, you know, we just never could get in any rhythm, whatsoever, to establish the run game. And then you get behind in the last few possessions, I mean, they ate the clock up and continued to stay on the field.”

Hmmm….I’m not sure your definition of, “yummy rat poison,” and mine are the same.

That said, teams that are 14-point favorites win the game (as distinct from covering the spread) about 84% of the time.
Yummy in the sense that some will eat it and keep eating it.
I hear what you are saying. But we've had the odds heavily in our favor several times before, only to have things go sideways on us. Especially down there.

I think they did not even watch NMS film and worked on Bama all week.

Guess Auburn being favored against NMS is part of that 16%.
