the nfl has said its policy on suspending players deals with habitual criminal offenses. so if big ben assaulted one girl im not sure that would fall under the nfl suspension guideline. when you consider he may have assaulted the other girl a couple yrs ago, then maybe you have grounds to say he is a repeat offender. the other aspect is that the steelers could suspend him themselves for conduct detrimental to the team. from what i hear, the rooneys are pretty ticked off at him about all of this and would probably do it regardless of what the league mandated.

Any criminal charge is pretty serious, especially considering the nature of this charge. I think he'll be suspended just b/c the NFL office doesn't want to be labeled as racist if they suspend a few black guys, but fail to suspend a white guy. Those allegations would come from somewhere and with the issue of a CBA not yet negotiated, the NFL doesnt want any other negative publicity.

Yes...at least for the stupidity of putting himself (and the Steelers and the NFL) in this compromising position...you'd think he would have learned something after the first time.

If he's simply charged, I doubt it. But if he has any class at all (doubtful) he'll take a leave of absence this season while the legal wranglings are unfolding.

If found guilty, then I think we know he'll be gone. Would be allowed back? Most likely.

Quite frankly, I'm OVER Ben and his shenanigans. His behavior leads me to believe he ain't the brightest bulb in the chandelier and he certainly doesn't care about much else beyond himself. If he did, he wouldn't keep putting himself in these compromising positions. I think he's a jerk.

I agree with you. I was thinking his first offense was dropped for lack of evidence or something. So in the eyes of the NFL, he has no criminal history. Not that it is right, but I think he plays until found guilty.
Yeah, something is missing with this guy. There are plenty of fish in the sea that would bite that hook and enjoy the money. He doesn't need to put himself in comprimising situations. He must be a half bubble off of plumb. Maybe that motorcycle accident messed up his logic. Not saying he is guilty though.................seems to be establishing a pattern.

To put it in perspective. What would happen to your job if you were charged with the same crime?

Would they hire you back after you served your time?

I'm betting the majority of us would be fired with no chance of rehire by the same company after our sentence is served.

I agree in this situation to hold off until convicted. If one of the people he assaulted worked for the Steelers Organization though, they might have had to suspend him.

Sometimes if charges are filed in a workplace, you have to suspend them pending an investigation.......that's for the safety of everyone involved.

But in this situation....no suspension yet.

Ben Roethlisberger hasn't been charged. He's been accused. There's a big difference. Even so, if I were criminally charged under the exact same scenario as BR, I would most definitely not be suspended from my job. However, if I plead or was found guilty, I would most definitely lose my job forever.

But Big B is a public figure who's been accused of - not charged with - sexual assault.

Remember the Duke lacrosse team case? Not saying he's innocent. But he is until proven guilty.

I agree. There are extenuating circumstances, where suspension or "reassignment" may be warranted. Accusation by a coworker, for instance. A police officer who has been accused of illegal activity. In Big Ben's case though, none of these type extenuating circumstances are present.
