With due respect given to the original post here, the fans are the least of the things that the recruits will be looking at right now. Just so that every person who wants to post on this subject gets some fair warning, remember that this website DOES have some recruits who visit/read/post here. Anything that we say should not tarnish the truth... we need great HS prospects to commit to our school so that we can rise above some of the current problems... coaching issues aside!

CrimsonGator,

Do you recognize this?

The casual college football fan won't be shocked if Alabama is a ten-win type of team again simply because of the brand name, Alabama is supposed to be good,

No one is going to have a parade for an Alabama team that comes up short of a championship

It is your signature, what the change in attitude?

CMS is by no means sending the right message to all of
the recruits who are currently looking at possibly signing
with Alabama in 2007 and that really woories me alot.

Something needs to be done before this whole mess hurts
our recruiting class and right now thats something that we
can't afford see or let happen.

If I am a recruit and visited this message board, it would have zero influence on what my decision would be. It'll be the coaches, coaching philosophy, and player development at the program that would sway me.

As a recruit I'd be more concerned about what the coaches can do to make me into great (read: NFL caliber) player and less about what fans say on message boards.

Every school has crazy internet message board fans but not every school has a great coach who can help make me a star. I couldn't care less what is said on message boards.

I love it when people try to rationalize our problems, by implying it is somehow it is due to an online message board.

Tebow "I didn't want to go to Bama, cause they have mean fans on the internet."

Give me a break

This is funny. I haven't heard anybody say that our problems were due to an internet message board. What I heard was that this board reflects our unforgiving nature/demand for excellence -- however you choose to see it.

I am amazed at the absolute number of things that the Shula haters will gripe about. I also am interested in the fact that many of the most vocal pot stirrers (both yesterday and today) are recent registrees. Hmmmm....

Actually I've seen it mentioned several times that fans are to blame for various team problems.

It's also not the first time I've seen people say "What if a recruit visited this site".

Just yesterday, someone tried to equate team performance to lack of cheering in the stadium. Stay with me guy...

Can we please move beyond the idea that a coaching change will throw our recruiting or program into such chaos that UA won't compete for years to come? Fran came in and won a bowl game his first year and won ten the following. Florida didn't seem to miss many beats in their coaching change. If a change needs to be made, make it regardless of the short term recruiting effects our facilities, support, location and reputation will sell themselves. A 6-7 season will not.

Well said.

Additionally, what good is a talented recruiting class if you can't do anything with the players you bring in? I mean, that DL class of a couple of years ago was very highly touted and only one of them has even seen the field at this point, notwithstanding our tremendous lack of depth on the DL.

Recruits ask two questions of potential colleges:

1) Why should I play here?
2) What will I get out of it?

It's that simple...no mystery. They, like all of us, are selfish; and rightly so.

I wonder how Bama recruiters will answer those questions. We've been using the "Oh well, we're still rebuilding after probation," but let's be honest, we HAVE been real close this year to some big games and we couldn't close. And instead of learning, we've digressed.

So honestly, why should they play here and what will they get out of it? A team with a legendary history and a chance to play in a packed stadium under a coaching staff that refuses to acknowledge mistakes?

If I'm 18-19 years old and I've a choice between a proven coach with a team that looks like it IS improving (like Spurrier and S.C., or Arkansas) or a young coach whose yet to show much of anything except a stern refusal to hand over the offensive reigns to someone with more experience...I gotta tell ya...I'm heading east and if that doesn't work out...I'm headin' for Clinton territory.

I love the Tide, I still wear my hat to the gym, but I'm done making excuses.

I would say the board does not sway recruits either way. If I were being recruited by CMS and I also read this board; I would call him and ask him what he was planning on doing and then I would post to let you guys know. Then, of course, I would sign.

Roll Tide.
