In the West, is 3rd place better than 2nd?

Yes, 2nd place would get us a bye, but it would also put us in the bracket with East #1, probably Kentucky. While I like our chances against any other SEC team on a neutral floor right now, them Cats are playing championship basketball, and we aren't.

a tough spot indeed. i also don't like the idea of getting a bye on the first round. we need wins and you don't get them with a pass...just my

I would rather finish in a tie for 1st(still possible although not likely)in the West.
If Bama finishes 2nd that would mean Bama finished 8-8 in conference which would get them in the Big Dance, so I'd vote for that.

It might mean a tougher bracket in the SEC tourney but the trade off would be worth it.

I would agree with that. If bama can win these last 2, finish 8-8 in the conference, 18-9 overall- they're in regardless of how they play in the tourney. But- at the same time- I would rather play someone besides Kentucky the first game. Roll Tide

If we end up #3 in the West we will probably play Vandy or S. Carolina on Thursday and if we win that one, then probably play Florida on Friday.

If we end up #2 in the West we will probably play UGA on Friday, assuming they beat who they play on Thursday (probably Ole Miss or Arkansas)

I would rather get the first round bye and be fresh to pay back UGA for beating us earlier this year.

I think if we finish 2nd or 3rd, based on our tough non-conference schedule we will be in the Big Dance.

Pluck and Grit, I must tell ya. That 'Cat team is the most physical defense I've seen, this side of rugby. UK could be taken out of their game if the officials would just call a clean game. That team grabs and holds more than any hoop team I've seen in recent memory. But, to their credit, it's worked. UK is a good team, but defensively they get away with murder. Roll Tide Roll!!!

------------------

Basically, the UK defense is the strategy of "They can't call all the fouls, so let's just go at 'em......take the calls they do call, and we get a bunch of free slaps, punches and knock downs".....

Kentucky is winning b/c they have the best defense in the country and are dominating the best league at 14-0. Let's leave the officiating excuse to schools like Florida (I've seen that all over their boards) because that's all it is - an excuse.

"Our guys played very hard," Harrick said. "It was a very, very tough, physical game. We shot 38 percent, they shot 40 percent. I just thought we fouled them a few times too many."

UK does play physical but also gets called for several fouls. Their depth allows them to substitute and not lose much from the bench.

Go to the statistics, and I would imagine, that not only does Kentucky not get called for as many fouls as their opponents, I would also bet, they outshoot their opponents from the free throw line by an average of at least 10 attempts at home and about 5 on the road...maybe I'm wrong, but the officials love the allure of BIG BLUE
(or is it BLACK and BLUE when it's UK???)

One game you might care about:

Alabama vs. Kentucky

Alabama: 22-30 Free Throws
Kentucky: 17-21 Free Throws

Regardless, Kentucky goes to the line alot because it works the ball inside and rarely shoots a three-pointer 5 seconds into the offense.

well heres my take on this. i dont care who we play. if we play like everyone knows we are very capable of...not many teams will beat us. we looked incredible against LSU at home and we looked pretty good sunday at home against Ole Miss. i think we have a tremedously talented team. if they play up to their potential, i say bring on anyone!

When the Tide dominates the SEC in football, it's only because the refs let us hold all game.

By saying the refs let UK foul more is essentially saying the same statement as above. They're just better than every team in the country's best conference, on any given night.

Funny how losing makes the officiating seem that much worse. It's bad both ways of every game. The best teams win, period.

With regards to the officiating....since Bama Football has been flagged more in the last two years than any other SEC Team, I'm not sure if that argument flies...

With regards to Basketball, it's all about The Jordan Factor......you make a name, you get the calls.....(unless you are Bama Football!! LOL)....

I went through the box scores of UK games... and it's really sort of scary......just look at the UT game alone.....look at the Discrepancy, at Knoxville

I'm not denying that UK isn't a good team. And you are right to say they don't shoot 3 pointers often....but when you mug the other team and score on fast breaks...you don't have to. UK's Offense is their Defense, and the refs let them overguard, and bump, and push the other team into submission.....sort of like watching Sumo Wrestling without the Sumo.......

Did you watch that game in Knoxville? Fouls do not have to be even to be fair. When one team fouls significantly more, they (usually) get whistled for more fouls.

Kentucky vs. Florida (in Lexington)

Foul shots:

Kentucky: 3
Florida: 18

C'mon, man. This foul argument is pathetic and weak. Alabama fans are better than this ......

Kentucky held Erwin Dudley to 0 field goals. His only points were at the free throw line, but that tells you something about Kentucky's defense: no easy shots. 3rd and 2nd seed is a moot point because if we are second, beating LSU and South Carolina, then we make the big dance anyway and if we are third, probably losing to LSU, we need to rely on getting a couple of wins in the SEC tournament. Alabama should just win as many games as they can. RTR!!

Since I was the one that called out UK's physical defense, let me say I'm sorry for that can of worms!! The 'Cats have a super team. Offensively they can go inside or outside, and defensively they'll smother you. But, IMO, if the game is called closely, fouls will stack up on them quickly. Roll Tide!! We need two wins this week!!
