Indiana DC X War Against Ty Simpson

You can say the same thing about Indiana. They got the last laugh and they can not seem to move on.

This latest comment comes from what’s basically a blog post rehashing one section of a Much larger article written by Stewart Mandel for the Atlantic.

That article covers Cignetti’s career from the beginning all the way through this past season.

The Alabama game was one small section before moving onto their Semi Final game and then the NCG vs Miami.

The quotes themselves are from a guy who was the IU strength coach and who is now at Tennessee.

It’s not like people at IU just woke up today and got in front of a microphone or reporter and started smack talking Alabama.

In their defense, they've literally never "been there before", so they have no idea how to handle any form of success. It would be like someone who's been dirt floor poor their entire life, then one day hitting the billion dollar powerball. They have no idea how to handle having money so they act as such.

Look out if Northwestern or Rutgers gets some big NIL donors.

I agree with this because they are new blood or nouveau riche.

But it’s beyond me that it’s ruffling peoples feathers so badly.

If any fan base should be secure in their standings it should be Alabama fans.

We are without question the #1 CFB program of All Time with Objectively the most Hardware.

My take is just let them talk and have their fun and it’s no big deal wrt to us.

I went and looked at Miami, and Oregon, and tOSU’s FB forums and there is not a single thread on any of their boards main page about IU.

We should not be this thin skinned and it’s nothing but an unnecessary distraction to get worked up about it.

I saw a comment about it being bulletin board material and I audibly and involuntarily laughed.

There is no guarantee we even play IU again anytime soon unless both teams just happen to make the same playoff field in the same side of the bracket.

We don’t even have guys that respond to that type of motivation anymore anyway.

Tommy Castellanos talked smack a month before playing us and then doubled down on it going into the game and his 7 loss FSU team whipped us by 2 TD’s.

The Bama staff, Players, and Fans all need to on the whole toughen up.

Let the Indiana coach say something about their game the way he did Alabama and the fans will talk plenty.

His comments are absolutely bulletin board material, but just in general terms. Alabama has been soft for years, these guys should want to stop it now.

I said, "Post it in the weight room." You can laugh at that if you want to.

It has nothing to do with playing Indiana again. But if their comments motivate our guys not to get handled like that again in a game, why in the world shouldn't we use that motivation? That's how the sporting world works. People at all levels get motivated from outside sources. That's why CNS/any modern day college coach, brings in guest/motivational speakers! It's no different!

I agree with the notion that it’s something that can work and has worked before.

My reaction was more about how our current group doesn’t respond to that type of motivation or at least they haven’t so far.

I don’t know if it’s because of NIL or the portal or today’s generation of players but they just don’t seem to have that kind of dog in them anymore.

The 2008 team was fueled by losing to Fla in the SECCG and that was a respectable loss but still they were on a mission to meet them again in 2009.

Today’s players seem more wishy washy from week to week wrt to motivation.

They can lose a game to FSU that was immediately preceded by smack talk and then put on a show the next week against the sisters of the poor and then have peaks and valleys of intensity after then.

We’ve lost multiple times recently or almost lost because of a disparity in intensity.

We’ve been blown out multiple times.

We’ve lost to 5,6, and 7 loss teams multiple times.

Those external messages don’t seem to hit home.

It just feels like whatever motivation we need should come from inside the house by looking in a mirror and not from external chatter.

Whatever IU says or doesn’t say about Alabama is completely irrelevant imo.

That was my thinking too. Get back to being mean!

I'm afraid coaches today (not just DeBoer) are dealing with a much differently wired type of athlete. I think Coach Saban started realizing this in the last few years of his tenure as well and I'm not sure it has anything to do with NIL. Never did I ever think a Saban led Alabama team would go into Neyland stadium admitting being "nervous" and walking right up to admitting they were scared. Take baseball for example, I've seen multiple interviews with former MLB players from the 60's, 70's and 80's that said the difference between today's player and the players during their time is today's players are too friendly to each other.

"All of them act like buddies before and after games. We never did that. When we stepped on the field we hated the other team before the game, during the game and after the game. Players today go to the other teams dugout and congratulate them after losing to them in the World Series. We'd never do that." - Pete Rose Rose said this almost 15 years ago.

You see evidence of what Rose said in football, baseball, basketball, etc. Listen to some of the old school NBA players talk about how Bird, Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, Rodman, etc. played the game compared to the NBA players today. It's like two different worlds. I think you see it on the collegiate level as well. Players simply aren't wired (in general) like that anymore. It would be a good discussion as to why we think that is and I'm sure part of that discussion would go to how we're raising our children.

I think we're seeing a slow walk to flag football or something close to it, you know kind of like soccer and the mentality that goes with it

You are absolutely telling the truth. My coaches in the late 70’s and early 80’s taught us to hate other teams. I didn’t start talking to other players from our rivals until after my playing days were over.

I think the more parents inserted themselves into sports (helicopter parents), the more it affected kids’ mental toughness.

To the victor goes the spoils and IU can say anything they want right now.

I wish we Bama fans would move on.

Every little thing they say is getting under people’s skin.

They did line up and beat the crap out of us.

We did quit.

We shouldn’t be mad at Cignetti or his DC or their players or their fans.

We should mad at who’s responsible for Bama getting whipped and quitting.

It’s the Guy making a Top 4 salary now.

All of this stuff is misplaced anger.
Move on? From what? They won the National Championship, but the more important thing was the beat down of Alabama . I guess people shouldn’t post observations on a forum. My bad.

I couldn't help but notice the words of Bray Hubbard:

Indiana 38, Alabama 3.

That’s the gap between the national champion and the SEC’s runner-up.

“We’re hungry,” says senior safety Bray Hubbard. “Obviously we lost in the Rose Bowl last year, and there’s guys that still remember that. We’ve obviously got to learn from that.

“You have to use it as motivation.”

Hunger and motivation are good fuel.

I couldn't help but notice the words of Bray Hubbard:

Bray is a throwback old school kind of player and I believe him.

He definitely has some internal fire and would have fit in on a lot teams from the past.

136 Tackles, 7 INTs, and 4 FFs in the last 2 seasons.
