I am so happy for them. I hope that it works out. I will be one of the first naysayers to congratulate President Bush if it continues to go smoothly.

I have also been a naysayer. I have thought all along that this war was a mistake, that the President wasn't being straight about our motives, that we would never be able to bring democracy to another country on the end of a gun barrel, and that all those U.S. and Iraqi lives are being lost in vain. Yesterday's election was Exhibit A in the case that my view is mistaken, and I couldn't be happier about it! I hope this is a real turning point, and that things get better from here. Bush has made a lot of mistakes, but history will forgive him those if a stable democracy truly does come to Iraq, and if Iraq becomes a bulwark against terrorism and Islamic extremism.
