I'm at work, and a friend of mine texted me saying that he lost his Iron Bowl tickets. Apparently, UA sold too many student Iron Bowl tickets, so they refunded all students who have less than 78 hours completed through Fall 2008.

I probably lost mine as well, having completed 77 hours through Fall 2008. I wonder how the University could oversell tickets knowing full well the alottment they're getting from Auburn for tickets.

That stinks. I wonder if they gave themselves a pad in terms of how many to sell...knowing that they would eventually cut some off by credit hours.

That is weird though because like you said...we should know exactly how many tickets we are allotted in Jordan-Hare.

Could it possibly be that more tickets are being given to Tide Pride? Is that possible?

This isn't a new situation. As a senior I had ~115 hours and lost my tickets. They oversell every year for some reason and every year I was at UA, I knew someone who thought they had tickets and were refunded about this time in the summer.

It is my understanding that the Student Union has an agreement that a certain percent of away game tickets will go to the students.
This works well with all the games except for Auburn and Tennessee.
Not trying to take sides but I feel sure that the student allotment for the Kentucky or Mississippi State game will not be sold out.
If all the Auburn tickets went to the students and none to the Tide Pride members-you would still have students refunded due to the popularity of that ticket.

That is essentially correct. The ticket office has always set aside a certain percentage of the allotted away game tickets for students. I can guarantee that the Auburn refunds have nothing to do with selling more tickets to non-students.

The ticket office's biggest mistake was allowing someone with less than 80 completed hours to think that they could get tickets to the Iron Bowl in Auburn. When I was a student, you essentially had to be a graduating senior (at least 100 hours) to have a shot at those tickets.

Because they know how many tickets they will have, but do not know how many people will order. It works the same way with Tide Pride road tickets. They can only estimate how many people above a certain cutoff point will order. The ticket orders are always subject to availability.

Have they not changed the away ticket policy to only allow students to order 1 ticket per road game instead of 2? I thought that was the case now. That makes a big difference in the cutoff point.

For me anyways, I was only able to order two tickets for the Virginia Tech game. All other non-home games, I could only order one.

Good point. I forgot about the change. With the rapid increase in enrollment, I doubt the cutoff point would be as drastic as it would have been 5-10 years ago.
