Question: Is Aggie offense better this year?

As if I needed another reason to worry I just read an article at aggiesports which claims their O is better this year than last.

What do you guys think? Given their level of competition thus far, it might be too hard to tell. My initial thought is no, especially since they lost Swope, but I’d like to read your thoughts.

I've watched both their games and as objective as I can be I say no. I know the left side of their line isn't as good. During the Rice game the owls were able to get pressure over the left tackle and guard pretty often. I also think us not coming off game 8 of the season in Baton Rouge being mentally and physically beat up will play a greater role than people think. I still say if our line improves just a little bit we'll run on them like a prison break.

No one knows.

We won't really even know Saturday night. Maybe Bama's defense is a lot worse than last year. You really can't say much of anything about teams until about half the season is done.

Just look at how people are going GaGa over the Eagles (and I'm an Eagles fan). Sure, they ran 53 plays in the first half, but that's because Washington kept turning it over. At one point the Eagles had run 30 plays to 6 for the Skins. They play the Chargers, Chiefs and Broncos in the next 3 weeks. We'll know a lot more about them then.

They are better now than they were at this point in the season last year, but probably not quite as good as they were when they played Alabama last year. By that point it was late in the season and they were all playing on the same page. So figure that they will not quite be up to that standard, but your defense has only had one game together so you are probably not quite up to the same standard either.

All that said, your defense is much better prepared to play this type of offense, even this early in the season, than you were last year. I would say that the year over year comparison favors Alabama. My conclusion - aTm scores fewer points this year than they did last year (assuming no points from defense/ST allowed)

Second year in the system, so I will say yes. The wildcard is what happens when JF improvises. Does he throw a pick or scramble and throw a TD? I would rate the Aggie defense worse than last year. The Alabama defense is just as good. Does the offense wake up? I don't expect AJ to have two slow weeks. It's his game to win.

I would have to say yes, if only for the fact that Johnny is taking time to go through his reads much moreso these days. He was really only just beginning to grasp how to do that at game speed when we played y'all last year (after LSU humbled him into realizing he couldn't do it with his legs against elite defenses). The addition of Ricky Seals-Jones along with Mike Evans makes for a twin towers-like combo at WR, and the Aggies are VERY deep at RB with Ben Malena (swiss army knife), Tra Carson (bruiser), Brandon Williams (burner), and Trey Williams (flashy big play threat).

The only downside to Johnny hanging in the pocket longer is he will have fewer opportunities to make plays with his legs by the time he decides to pull it down and run, but his elusiveness appears to be on par with last year.

In summation: The Aggie offense is better this year, I believe, but like another poster alluded, will probably only hope to be as efficient as what y'all faced in Tuscaloosa last year.

And of course I'm horribly, irrevocably biased.

If your judging the offense as a whole then I say no at least not yet. If you are basing it off of just Johnny Football then yes they are better than last year. I have to say last year he played an amazing near flawless game as well as Swope. Lets see how he handles getting pressured rather than being free to run as he pleases.

not sure if it is better or worse, but last year they had a career day against us. Against a "fresh" AL defense I will be shocked if JM goes 24-31 again and he does not have swope to catch 11 of those.

He has a Mike Evans but my cousin took care of him in 2nd half last year. Btw, this hype reminds me of the 2010 Iron Bowl. Instead of Alabama vs Texas A&M, it's Alabama vs Johnny Manziel.

Like Mr. HSV said it is hard to tell. And one game judging Bama is as well. We will find out soon enough. I do want to believe that Bama's offense just had a bad day. It happens.

They have better tools this year and JF is better but it all depends how they work together. Plus remember they have a new Offensive coordinator. Right now all we can say is they have the ability to be better but will they be?
