Is anyone here actually rooting for Auburn to beat Oregon?

I really want the title to stay in the SEC, and I could even bring myself to hope AU wins- all things square. But when AU goes down for all of this crap I have a bad feeling that they're title will be an albatross for every SEC national champion. So my hope is that Oregon wins by way of a blatantly obvious bad call. That way there will at least be a THIN taint to the winner not being AU, more importantly in the SEC. (PS- I said could hope they win- not that I could root for them)

I'm fairly apathetic about the whole thing. AU has 2 good defenders; OR has none. OR has multiple fast good guys on Offense; AU has the freak show + Dyer. I predict a Barn W in the 2nd half; don't think OU has seen anything quite like...*drum roll*...Fairley, who to me will be key to this game.

Which is about as much thought & "care" as I intend to give. Luckily, I only really know one true Barner family around here that I see, and I shamed them by *not* talking noise last year. Thus, this year has been tolerable from that perspective.

I will never, ever, root for Auburn to win anything in any sport, unless the victory benefits Alabama. Period.

And in this case, an Auburn win is of no benefit to Alabama.

QUACK, QUACK!

I'm certainly not rooting for Auburn to win, but I certainly do expect Auburn to win. I think the Tiggers pull away and win handily in the second half. Once we blew it against them, I have been trying to get my brain ready for the idea that they are going to win it all. We should have taken care of them in T-town, but we blew it. Therefore, we must prepare to watch them roll Toomer's Corner every day for a month after the title game. I hope Saban and crew get our guys ready to win another title REAL soon.

NO!

Now that I have that knee-jerk reaction out of the way, I'll tell you why because I want my first post here to be respectable

1. I like Oregon. Any team with the propensity to beat USCw at anything is alright by me. And I have a thing for rubber duckies. However, I do loathe the PAC-10 with a pretty intense passion and I NEVER want them to garner any accolades, least of all over the SEC.

2. My allegiance is first and foremost to Alabama. That's just how I was raised. Consequently, I do root for the other SEC schools (unless they are playing the Crimson Tide or Florida State). However, I was also raised to be an honest, responsible woman of integrity. My parents taught me to, "Show class, have pride and display character." So I just can't cheer for people who I KNOW are cheating. Sure, people can say, "Everybody does it," but this is out in the open for all the world to see. Not even Shakespeare could expect THAT MUCH suspension of disbelief. And the fact that Auburn is taking the, "Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter accusations," stance will only make me cheer harder for Oregon because no Duck ever insulted my intelligence.

3. I hate Auburn. I do. I tried to be one of those diplomatic fans who could abide the existence of that other school with its tacky colors and toilet paper "tradition." But four years ago, I moved into a crappy dorm room in the shadow of Bryant-Denny Stadium and I came to find out that there was nothing wrong with hating Auburn. In fact, it was healthy to do so. In conclusion, I would like to quote a caller I heard in February on Finebaum: "I don't care if Auburn is playing China at ping pong. I want them to lose."

This was longer than I meant for it to be, but hey, it's my first post. Hopefully I'm well on the way to making a name for myself :p

Quack, Quack, Quack.

I will pull for Auburn against Oregon.

I have many Auburn friends who will be very happy if they can pull it out, so good for them. It doesn't diminish what we've done, and it doesn't mean Chizik can coach.

One championship every 50 years, doesn't make them great.

I'm very confident that we have the right coach, and I still don't think Chizik is a great coach. I have no problem rooting for the bad guys in this.

Welcome and nice first post though I'm afraid Jack Daniel's already "made a name for himself" with OldNo7. ;-)

Yes. Well... not exactly "rooting"; but my preference is for Auburn to win. I'd like to see an SEC team win the NC. Again.

I of course realize my view is counter to the vast majority of folks on this board. That's OK; no explanations needed. But since it's very cold outside this morning and (being retired...) I'm sitting at the computer enjoying my second cup of tea, I'll write a few words on WHY I'd like to see Auburn win. (Folks who are rolling their eyes now; or think I'm a closet Barner, oughta' skip the rest of this post and move on to the next one.)

I'm an SEC bigot. Nevermind the rationale about why it makes no sense to pull for any SEC team other than Bama. I am what I am. I enjoy the SEC being at the top of the heap in CFB.

Someday pollsters could have to make a decision to put into the BCSCG either (a) a one-loss Alabama; or (b) a one-loss Big Ten or Big 12 or PAC 10 etc. school...or an undefeated cupcake-eater. I want the "intangibles" to weigh in favor of Alabama. SEC dominance of the BCSCG helps that.

Auburn fans measure themselves based on Alabama. That's life. But the reverse isn't true. Alabama fans do not (or should not!) measure our program based on that of Auburn. I don't anyway. That being the case, I don't feel the Alabama program is threatened if Auburn does well occasionally. We all know it's occasional. Their temporary dominance earlier this decade was due to our NCAA problems. And yes, I recall the unbridled glee of Auburn (and Vol...) fans when we had our NCAA issues. It was as though the health of their programs could only be achieved if Alabama's program was down. I told myself at the time that I hope I never become them. And I haven't.

This brings us to the smoke currently surrounding the Auburn program. First I'll dismiss the Cam stuff. He's a great player. Maybe bought; maybe not. If bought, it'll likely come out in the next year or so. I don't care either way.

Of much more interest is the alleged PFP that's been going on for years. Whatever has been going on will likely come out... but not anytime real soon. When it does, the NCAA will deal with it. Those who believe the NCAA intends to give Auburn a pass are living in a world different from the one I inhabit. The NCAA will NOT pass on a chance to take down an SEC school. It's my opinion that Auburn is headed for a severe NCAA-induced fall. But I can't prove it. Nor (so far as we know...) can the NCAA... yet. It took ancillary litigation to give the NCAA what they needed for the Bush situation. In the case of Auburn, investigations leading up to the likely requisite illuminating litigation are underway. If Auburn is clean and wins a NC, they deserve it. If they're dirty and win a NC, they lose it... along with whatever honor they may have had.

Furthermore, the smoke surrounding the Auburn situation will adversely affect recruiting. That, together with a massive loss of senior leadership (plus Cam), and Auburn won't be very good next year. Whereas HS student athletes see Alabama as a multi-year dynasty in the making, they will see Auburn as a one-trick pony. And that pony is leaving the tent.

Now for another cup of tea.

Who is this Auburn team everybody is talking about?:)

And NO, I will not be pulling for them:) Roll Tide my Bama Faithful!!!! I head out in two days coming home on R&R!!!! Get to see our bowl game at a normal time...YAY!!! lol

Who is this Auburn team everybody is talking about?:)

They're this team from west Georgia.:)

Not me. I know a lot of obnoxious Auburn fans, but no Duck fans. I'm giving Oregon fans (and thus the University/Football team) the benefit of the doubt...socks notwithstanding. Quack!

The Ducks don't play the same style of ball that we do, but they are fun to watch and I've been rooting for the all season long so no reason to stop rooting for them now. I'm glad they made it to the big game, and I think they will beat the Barn.

That being said, if you see me wearing a turban, that probably means Iraq is playing against Auburn.
