Is James Willis staying?

I looked at the staff directory. I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same person. I may be fuzzy on the details from that night too.

It seems as though none of these coaches that leave UA have much success at the other schools that they went to as compared to the success they had at UA. Kevin Steele and Lance Thompson are now afterthoughts. If Willis leaves, he will become one too, especially with Tubbs going back to Troy for his OC. We all know how that turned out for him last time. Personally, I don't think he'll make it in the Lil' Big 12.

I know I am in the minority but I just can’t be that excited about a guy who played for and/or coached at Auburn. I know to a lot of these coaches this is a business and they are making decisions based on what is best for them in terms of their careers and families but I can’t stand everything about that school and its hard to turn it off. So I will say good luck and thanks for being here but I certainly won’t lose any sleep over it.

That's something that's been noted before - CNS makes coaches better (or else). Lance never liked Nick's required hours and a couple of others have freely said, after they left, that they felt that they had to work too hard and long. I would think that Willis is after the title. Once he has that title, and even a modicum of success, it opens other doors around the country. I certainly don't think he wants to retire in Lubbock. The question is whether or not it's a better, quicker route than staying another couple of years under Saban...

Regarding the CRM situation, I met Charlie Harbison once while he was here with the CMD staff (I believe), he was going thru the same thing with his wife who ultimately passed a couple of years while I think he may been at LSU. I couldnt imagine coaching football at this level and having to deal with this sort of condition at home at the same time. I just dont see how you can stay in football and be a single parent. Regardless of their coaching proficiency, I have a lot respect for these guys as both are quality individuals.

He's gone, according to Gentry Estes....
Members of Alabama's defensive staff are in favor of the promotion of Jeremy Pruitt, who is currently the Crimson Tide's director of player development.

A source says former Alabama assistant Lance Thompson -- a linebackers coach who recruited Mobile for the Crimson Tide before leaving the program this time last year for Tennessee -- would also have an interest in returning to Tuscaloosa if he is not retained by the next head coach in Knoxville.

Willis went about it the right way. Asked Saban for permission to interview, then talked to Saban in person before formally accepting the job. I wish him well...

My guess is he went with Saban's blessing. It was a step up and probably a raise. He has to live in Lubbock and deal with Tubberville's foolishness, but he's at least seen the latter and knows what he is getting into. It's not like he was going to be our DC this year, or likely even next. I hope he is successful enough there to take the next step and be a head coach some day. Sounds like he handled it in a classy manner. I don't have a problem with this. And my guess is our coach has already got three replacements in mind and has probably been on the phone with two of them.
