Question: Is There A Limit on # of Official Visits Per School?

Just wondering about this. I know that a recruit can take a maximum of 5 official visits, and I'm assuming an unlimited amount of unofficial visits. But are schools limited as to the number of official visits they can offer?

And another one, while I'm at it. You see recruits taking unofficial visits to schools and attending football games. Does the university allow them free admission to the game, or do they have to pay for admission? I'm assuming they have to pay, but tickets are hard to come by sometimes - how do these recruits obtain their tickets?

Anyone?

I'm not sure if the NCAA has a rule on it. One constraint would be the recruiting budget and how much money is allotted from the athletic department for recruiting.

The players do not pay for the tickets. They have to pay for their travel (if on an unofficial visit) but get into the game for free. The athletic department has a certain number of tickets set aside for recruits (that goes for every sport, not just football).

Thanks, RTR, but why wouldn't the free ticket be considered an extra benefit? Are all students provided a free ticket? I thought only a certain number of student tickets are available. (Or maybe that's all that's needed to assuage the NCAA).

There's a certain number of tickets allotted. For example, Alabama had to turn recruits away from the November 5 game against LSU because somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 recruits wanted to attend the game.

I'm pretty sure there is no limit to how many guys can come in on their own dime. Or if there is, it's probably a pretty large number.

Wow - I would have thought it would be more than that. I guess schools have to be really picky about who they invite.
Not really . There was a time when they did , but most schools are now only using up around half their allotment . Classes just fill up so much sooner these days . A lot of the players form relationships at camps and it carries over . Many of them choose to meet up at the same campus and games throughout the season for several unofficial visits .

Aha! Thanks for clearing this up. I'd assume most of the 48-hr trips would be taken by players affected by distance. (Which would make sense).
