I've put off asking long enough. The M.O. the last few years is a lethargic first half, with good halftime adjustments. Has CMS fixed the transmission slipping in low gear?

Good question, and a hard one to answer.

If you look at scrimmages, one started slow followed by the last one starting fairly fast. (can't really include the 1st scrimmage based on the defensive approach).

There has been an emphasis on starting fast...we can only wait and see, eh?

Excellent question. But as Terry said it is hard to answer and won't be answered until September 2nd and beyond. Preferably I'd like to see a more "complete"/"consistent" style of play. Naturally you're going to have high's and lows during the course of a game. But keeping those "high's and lows" from going to extremes is important.

Starting off too slow/lethargic takes a lot of energy to overcome every game and will begin to show it's effects as the season wears on. I think a lot of it has to do with CMS getting a "feel" of the game. Kind of like players being nervous before a game but after they get that first contact/hit over with they can play ball. It seems as the game goes on the team gets more relaxed and comfortable which might be a reflection of what's going on with the CMS on the sidelines. As the game goes on he's getting a better "feel" for the game.

'Cuzzin.

I thought it was just the oposite. Starting first half then poor adjustments in second half.

Seems like we tried to open up the first half last year. Everybody at Auburn knew we would throw on first play.

Really? I agree with buzzincuzzin, it seemed like we always started off a bit sluggish in the first half, but when the 3rd quarter rolled around we were like a different team. It's good to know the staff is able to make the necessary changes at halftime, it would just be nice if we could come out with our foot on the gas for a change.

Yeah...we were a second half team all year except for the LSU game. Before the LSU game, Utah State was the only team to score on us in the 3rd Quarter (3 points). Heck...we outplayed Auburn in the second half last year...we just couldn't make up the 21 points we gave them in the 1st Quarter. I think that was the giant hurdle we went over last year...halftime adjustments. We dominated almost every team we played in the second half...and that was a direct result of coaching and adjustments.

I think you're talking about two different things - I think GA Bamafan is talking about first/second half of the season not games.

Bamabuzzard is talking about first/second half of games. We very often started slow, and made excellent adjustments after halftime.

You are correct sir. :biggrin2:

Playing like that may take a lot out of our guys (over the course of the season). It takes digging deep (emotionally) to start off sluggish then shift gears to get your tail in gear and "turn it on". Rather than being more even keeled and having moderate ups and downs throughout the game.

I think our offense will impress everyone this year. If you watched JPW in high school you'd know he has a chance at greatness. With him starting out against a weak Hawaii D, I think it will do nothing but boost his confidence. With our recent problems on offense the past few years I think we finally have the kind of players CMS wants. I think we see a difference this year.

I see your point, but I don't see how GA Bamafan could have come to that conclusion based on buzzincuzzin's post. He clearly mentioned "halftime adjustments" which would infer during games IMO. I also think GA Bamafan knew what buzzincuzzin was talking about, he just had a different opinion. At least that's how I understood it when reading their posts.
