Basically they said that in 1969 or I guess at the end of 68 people weren't happy with CPB. Bryant said he would give himself another year and make some changes.

They said the difference between now and then was he came out the next season unveliving the Wishbone offense and no team saw it coming. They went on the win the national title.

Granted I wasn't alive then, so I'm just repeating what they said, but my question is, is Coach Shula open for a drastic change in the offensive scheme. I understand people here have turn the staff upside down and all sorts of ways. But I'm wondering if CMS is willing to make an entire playbook switch, maybe completely new formations?

I think a lot of people are concerned that the problems with the current staff aren't just the offensive scheme, but other "deeper" issues that might be much harder to change. I don't think anyone ever accused CPB of being a poor motivator or soft on discipline.

Well, I am sure we have all seen the picture of Mike Shula / Coach Bryant and seen how much they look alike.
Well, I'm young enough to barely remember the '70s, but looks is as far as the similarities will go.

For the life of me, I can't see how they can even begin to equate that period with this period. CPB had won 3 national titles by that time (should have been 4, but I digress). Shula hasn't won a thing in comparison, nor will he unveil a different offense next season...

I would not put too much stock in what those 2 yahoos say. Actually it was 1969 and 1970 that were both 6-5 seasons. Coach Bryant didn't unveil the wishbone until the 1971 USC game in Los Angeles winning 17-10. Yes Coach Bryant went from a team throwing probably 35-40 times a game in 1969 and 1970 to the wishbone. He was not afraid of change and the makeup of his staff changed from time to time over the years. And by the way he was not the offensive coordinator either.

A more significant difference is that by 1969, CPB had already won three national championships.

The difference right now is Coach Shulas willingness to make changes.

Leaders know when changes need to be made.

We'll see in the next two weeks...

Tider, I agree with you for once. Just kidding. How has it been for you in your state? One thing about Coach Bryant was we didn't run up the middle so much. I wrote about that back in August. Now if I can see it coming do you think they can too?

You have to compare apples to apples here. Bryant had 3 National Titles by 1969 and several SEC championships. What has Shula done. Actually, I cannot believe I am responding to this because I still cannot believe Shula was hired!

You can't fix the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. You know its gonna sink. Shula staying another year will prove nothing, its just delaying the inevitable.

Now that is a positive statement! 69 and 70 were lean years for Coach Bryant. Thank God for Emory Ballard and his Wishbone. In 1971 Coach Bryant being the savvy coach he was knew a good thing when he saw it. Number #1 USC got to see the Wishbone and did not like it. Coach Bryant said of the Wishbone "When executed properly it is just hard to stop." From 71 till 79 while running the Wishbone BAMA compiled 97 WINS - 11 LOSES. During this time the Tide Walked away with Three National Titles. Should have been 5. 75/77. Joe Peterno said I voted Alabama Nr. 1. Woody Hayes said I have never had a team whip us like that. That Northern Bias was just to much. Back to the topic. Coach Shula has some serious changes to make and it will not be until next season if he does. I would not hold my breath. "Change is not bad if it allows success." Vince Lombardi :BigA:

Awful. My mailbox has been full of "Mittippi Tate over Bama jokes.

Of course the jokes on them in that they have to keep Croom, McCorvey, and Ellis Johnson. :p
You got that right..I was sitting behind 4 State fans saturday...they Hate Croom...They kept on saying if they win this game it would be bitter sweet...Yes they beat Bama, but that means Croom would get a 3 year extension.
