Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault - and...no charges to be filed...

Re: Wow! Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault

Seems odd to do such a big cover up for a RS QB that hasn't taken a snap in college yet.

I agree, but I think they realized last year that this guy was special. I was told by a FSU booster last year that they all beleived he would lead them to a baseball and football championship. They also believed he would have a similar impact to the university as Johnny Football did to A&M.

Re: Wow! Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault

I read on other boards that the case was closed all this time and then reopened. I have read a lot of comments other places and on ESPN that this seems fishy to be reopened---could his Heis hope have caused this to be reopened by people that don't want him to win? That's the implication I hear everywhere....

I think its way more plausible that this thing was suppressed from the beginning and conveniently closed by influences. If the media had not found out about it would it have been reopened? We might not have heard about it until his pro career- Can anyone say Aaron Hernandez?

You know when things happen if they can sweep it under the rug -- they will!
That's the side of college football, lots of powerful people within college football, never wants to be discussed by anyone..And that's when influences from big schools are able to have crimes committed by college stars, and those crimes are covered up by folks with the power, to get these crimes swept under the rug..And all that does is give these athletes the feeling of power, to do whatever they wanna do, cause they know powerful influences has their back..And when the domino affect kicks in, and these crimes escalate into bigger & more dangerous crimes, which puts innocent or vulnerable people at risk of these pampered football players..

I'm not saying it's an epidemic, but, there's players that definitely has that feeling of Teflon & they will do things that's against the law, cause they know those powerful folks will do what's necessary, to keep that school out of the public spotlight & protect their football program..It's scary to think about when look at the big picture & the folks that gets hurt by all this..And I don't like it..I hope if any player from Alabama does a serious crime, I don't care how important they are to the team, I hope they do the time that comes with the crime, and innocent folks aren't hurt by these players..JMHO

Re: Wow! Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault

FSU should take the high road and suspend him pending the outcome of an investigation. They will likely win their next few games without him. This leaves an impression from everyone outside of Tallahassee that FSU has no moral standards and will do anything to win on the football field. (sound familiar) It would be better for Jameis because if this isn't true he will be exonerated and I guarantee the authorites and FSU will announce it to the world as soon as he is cleared. He will been seen as the victim in this whole scenario rather than the villain if he were to miss any games.

It seems pretty clear the Tallahassee police and FSU cops screwed this up. They essentially encouraged what may or may not be a rape victim not to pursue the case. On top of that they never collected DNA or interviewed the suspect which in and of itself is fishy. It also appears she reported it only an hour after the incident happened and identified JW as the culprit so this is looking more and more serious.

From the way I read it, she didn't ID JW until sometime in January.

I just hate this....hate it for the victim, and hate it for JW.

FSU's moral compass was exposed when they allowed Neon Deon to play after being convicted of shoplifting

I just heard on Finebaum from the guy reporting the story that she reported it within a hour and it took place in his apartment so a suspect would be pretty clear cut. I am assuming the information I heard there is correct. Regardless of when she identifed him, If I am the TPD, the 1st thing I do is compel a DNA sample if she identifies him as the suspect if only to eliminate him as a suspect.

Whew. I said early on that I hoped there was nothing to this. The original facts looked like someone was after JW, but that was when it looked like the "victim" had shown up at a motel room in the wee hours of the morning, drunk, maybe something happened, or maybe not. And then she waited months to report it, with a general description that was much later tagged to him. Now it looks like almost none of that is true and that the story was manipulated by authorities and they bungled a cover up, into the bargain.

If this is even half true (and I can't imagine why her lawyer would just make stuff up that is going to be easy to confirm or refute -- either she filed a police report naming him that very night or months later), I feel so very sorry for this woman. Not going to let college football cloud my view of that.

If this report is accurate, there are problems all over the place and the local judicial system makes the Dukes of Hazzard look good by comparison. This is exactly what college football does not need. Sheesh.

Final BCS standings are what - 18 days away? This may really change some things. I wonder if voters will bump Baylor/OSU up? If nothing happens until, say, Monday I'd be curious if any voters take away 1st/2nd place votes this week and when/if Winston is suspended how that impacts things.

Re: Wow! Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault

The statement from the family of the victim on Tampabay.com doesn't sound good for either the TPD or FSU. TPD especially has been in the news of late for other issues.

If Jameis is truly innocent I too have sympathy for him, but, if he did this crime, I hope he goes to jail for awhile & thinks about what he did..If he's innocent then she should be ashamed of herself for pointing a finger at the wrong guy..I have a question for y'all, when someone accuses someone of a crime & it turns out to be a false accusation, and that persons life is turned upside down from those bogus charges..Can the accuser go to jail for false accusations & for the damage it's done to the person they accused falsely????

Re: Wow! Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault

I think its way too early to say anything either way in terms of guilt/innocence. However, it does seem apparent that the police messed up big time.

Yes depending on the state's law.

Just went back to re-read - the article in the Tampa paper is the one that said JW was ID'ed in January.

If there is any validity to these accusations it will be more than just Winston that is in trouble.
That's truly sickening when college football is put before our laws & the victims of a sexual assault..I love college football, but. I'm a daddy of two beautiful girls..And nothing(especially college football) comes before their safety & well being..That really ticks me off the victim would be told that..All that does is to give college football players the green light to do something like this..Sickening..
