Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (will miss first half vs Rice)

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

My thoughts...

I don't care if he gets suspended, nor if he plays again for A&M IF he's guilty. I'm sorry, I lost my ability to care what happens to other schools when I saw the reaction most had when we had our problems. The game won't suffer if Johnny doesn't play... there have been thousands before him, and there will be thousands after him (until the Supreme Court rules football to be unconstitutional because of head injuries but I digress). I want to beat Texas A&M because Texas A&M beat us last year - not Johnny.

Second thought is this. While I don't care whether he plays or not if he broke the rules, I DO however feel these rules are stupid. His likeness, his signature, his popularity. He ought to be able to profit off of it. JMO.

Final thought: I predict he plays. Or at worst, he misses the first 2 games.
I know some rules are a bit ridiculous but you must draw the line somewhere otherwise a kid could be doing car commercials or the like.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Didn't the ESPN OTL article mention JM signing stuff for his dad's dealership? Seems I remember reading about that but forgot about it until now. If so, that's a no-no.
The thing is I still expect he will likely play ala Cam, especially being so close to the season and aTm will have to forfeit games later if it's proved he was paid.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Hold on a minute ya'll - did he KNOW you aren't allowed to do this??

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Unless you can prove he got money, he's gonna walk.

Can someone with more knowledge of NCAA rules enlighten us on this? Is it only a violation if they can prove he was paid or is it a violation if he knew he was signing for the guy to sell for personal profit. Apparently there are 3 witnesses who saw him signing hundreds of articles at this guys apartment - so he had to know something was up.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Tommy, it makes no difference to me whether he plays or not. Part of being a great football team is knowing how to behave. It's just another blown assignment.

Just like a blown coverage, or dropped pass.

Even if a&m fans were to say, "if we had Johnny Manziel...", I would rebuttle with, if we only had Eddie Williams(edit) , Brent Calloway, Dennis Pettway (edit), and Tyler Hayes we could have beaten you worse.

Well you got two of them right.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that a college sophomore taking all online classes has a "personal assistant"?

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

First question asked in any NCAA investigation is, "Will a sanction benefit Alabama?" If the answer is "yes' or "maybe" then the investigation is over.

In Wright Thompson's piece last week, he talked about items being sent to the dealership for Johnny to autograph.

Even if there was an implied quid pro quo, if they cannot prove he was given money then it won't amount to anything. I'm no expert on NCAA rules (ok I am - they make it up as they go), but the point being made all over the net is that if you cannot prove he got money it's pretty meaningless.

Any predictions on how soon JM tests positive for synthetic MJ?

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

My bro-in-law was at the Baybears game that AJ was honored earlier this year. When he asked to get an autograph, he was told that since it was an advertised event that AJ would be attending he would not be doing ANY autographs due to NCAA rules. So glad that it seems that our players get it.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

The teams BAMA plays aren't currently all stacked up inside the top ten, but most of the opponents who are NOT cupcakes are played on the road. That makes an otherwise easy schedule have some teeth.

FWIW, Bama has lost only two road regular season games since the beginning of the 2008 season. Pretty impressive. Two losses in five seasons on the road. ;)

He'll be at practice tomorrow. "Andy Staples ‏@Andy_Staples 35m A&M assoc AD @jason_cook said Sunday night that Manziel will be at practice Monday. That's all the info Cook would volunteer."

I don't think this goes anywhere but, he can practice all he wants, even if he was declared ineligible by aTm. So Jason Cook's comment is as valuable as BHO is President of the USA.
