Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (will miss first half vs Rice)

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Do all of you guys remember how it felt when we had issues with some of our players? Issues that the University or the fans had nothing to do with but still affected everyone that had interests with the success of the University and the sports programs? (One Jimmy Johns comes to my mind. And I'm not comparing Johns to Manziel other than in an abstract connection.) I would imagine that A&M is finding themselves in such a situation now. Unlike the barn, I think every time a new article on JFB comes to the forefront they have a feeling of 'Oh Jeez, what is it this time.' The barn would just wonder what it was that Bama did to cause this one. In a way, I am actually feeling a little bad for A&M and their fans on this one. Even though the PTB's have permitted, allowed or looked the other way from the beginning, the ones that really care are the ones that will experience the disappointment much as we all did when we had a QB selling drugs. The disappointment ran deep within the community and that feeling resurfaces every time I think about it. What say you?

Roll Tide, Roll...A'ight!

I work with a bunch of Aggies in Houston and am friends with many more. None of them are very happy with JM right now.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

I think the signings like the photo posted previously in what looks like a hotel room, are going to come down to whether it was authorized by the aTm Compliance Dept. or not....it's not unusual for players to do signings, but if it was outside the approval of their compliance dept., then it's still a problem albeit probably on the minor side. The amount he signed might be irrelevant in that case.

The bigger issue what is now appearing to be multiple signings for $$$$$.
Just a guess on my part that some of this may come back to "uncle Nate's" involvement. It's a situation that would make me cringe if I were associated with aTm's compliance dept.

It's kind of surprising that Sumlin just found out all this was going on...whoa, if true.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Why not just ask Manziel if he signed autographs for money? I watched the presser with Sumlin and that was the most obvious question nobody asked. If I was his head coach the first thing I would have done when I heard about it was call him in and ask him. I guess it has never occurred to the ncaa to just ask him either.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Since he was hired as a "personal assistant" but has allegedly asked multiple brokers for $$$ in exchange for JM autographs (supposedly on his behalf), does "uncle Nate" fit the description of an agent?

My money is on Sumlin being in CYA mode

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Next thing you'll tell me, he signed a napkin for a sports agent in the hours after their victory over us last November.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Was anyone listening to Bill King this morning. Thought i heard some people implying Alabama turned him in. Good grief! All we've been talking about for the last year is facing JM again. The last thing I want is him out of the game!

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

The teams BAMA plays aren't currently all stacked up inside the top ten, but most of the opponents who are NOT cupcakes are played on the road. That makes an otherwise easy schedule have some teeth.

As far as the schedule worriers are concerned << No worries >>. If we finish undefeated, we'll be in Pasadena. Even with 1 loss and an SEC title, we'll still be there.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

I doubt anything comes of this since paying college players with a check is probably not the usual method of funds transfer (* cough... Auburn.. Caugh * Casino chips **). By any case I thirst for payback so if any suspension is coming I hope it's after week 3

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

The Cam defense is in full gear. They did not close that loop hole. Even Danny Kennal just said on SVP that the PA will take the heat, wht are they going to do to him?

So all Deliverence Boy has to do is say I took nothing & I know nothing about anyone else taking money. I was just doing a favor for a friend. Unless someone has a pic of JF receiving cash this is just another ESPN story.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

If this is true, will they take Bama's 2012 BCSC away from them, since this happened in Miami?

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Three points -

* The NCAA is a corrupt agency and I have no faith in their willingness or ability to get this right
* This type of policy needs to be removed - it is and always has been absurd
* If Manziel did this, with the $$$ that his family has, knowing the impact it could have on his team, he should be flogged

Did you read the previous OTL report on Johnny? They made a couple of interesting points. One was that his parents didn't approve of some of his behavior, and the conclusion I reached would be that they would avoid funding certain things. Furthermore, it said that they bought him a Mercedes he wanted to "keep him from doing something stupid to get it".

Well, it sure sounds like he did something stupid, presumably to get something else...
