Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Have you paid any attention to NCAA investigations? Who did the investigative work against USC? UNC? Miami? Ohio State? Auburn? Oregon?

The NCAA didn't do the work without some help.
I'd go as far to say the NCAA is designed by the member schools to be largely incapable of enforcing their own rules and all the major violations uncovered over the last few decades have been started by investigative journalism.

Had a twitter conversation with someone about this a few months back. Name an investigation the NCAA did on its own without any media help. Pretty hard.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

We don't even have proof of its existence right now. All we have is ESPN...and they do not bat 1.00 in the truth department. A guilty Johnny Manziel should sit. But no one, anywhere, in any type of responsible athletic department should cut him based off of ESPN articles. That decision is made off of authentic legal evidence. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've just not seen that come to light yet. I've seen one pic of Manziel in a hotel room and Joe Schadd stories about videos that may or may not exist.
I would think that if this is true, Manziel knows it. Now, is his character such that he would be honest with his staff and tell them so they can get this video legally and make decisions from there? Or, will he lie about it hoping that the owner of the video never shows or sells it because of the two-party rule in CT?

Regardless, the NCAA doesn't operate like a court of law. They do not care if a video is legally obtained or authenticated. You should trust what the Bama faithful speaks of and probably Google "Albert Means." :)

Maybe Manziel doesn't want the video to see the light of day because he doesn't like the clothes he's wearing? :D

I've kinda went back and forth with it till this latest report. While I would love to beat the crap out of A&M with Johnny Autograph playing, this latest report is too much smoke not to be fire - basically he not only broke the rules, but did so intentionally and tried to keep it quiet. If this is true, his CFB career should be over. Poor little rich kid.

Agree - I've always supported the University when it acted proactively in these situations. Opposing fans cast aspersions all day long, but we know the University is doing things the Right Way.

I guess we'll see if the Aggie Code of Honor is something they truly believe or just something they say: "An Aggie does not lie, cheat or steal, or tolerate those who do.”
My Aggie wife cannot stand Manziel and wishes he would go away. That said, the majority of Aggies are like a lot of folks in Church on Sunday morning, a bunch of hypocrites.

I wonder what was going on in his head. He didn't need the money at all. Why do something that couldn't end it all?! I guess it's the allure of it all!
Bulletproof - mentality of many a 20 year old... not excusing it, but the amount of limelight this guy gets just feeds it.

Just showed Aggie wife this thread and she said "If any Aggie player, coach, employee etc has knowledge of JFF signing, taking money, dealing with brokers etc., the honor code demands they tell the NCAA and compliance department." She'd rather see her team go 0-12 than play a liar.

They'll be risking a lot more than a season if they play him and he is found ineligible. The AD knows about this situation now. If they play him and evidence proves a violation the NCAA will start eating schollies. Believe us when we say scholarship reductions and SEC success do NOT go hand in Hand.

She's right too. However, what if Manziel did do the things he's being accused of and doesn't admit to it? If A&M has no solid proof or admission of guilt, than it would be awfully tough to bench him.

Just was messing around on ebay and found this, a signed helmet. Shouldn't this be looked into also? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jadeveon-Clowney-South-Carolina-GameCocks-Signed-Full-Size-Helmet-JSA-INSCRIP-/130940052752?pt=US_Autographs&hash=item1e7ca2a510

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

if Manziel admits wrongdoing to Sumlin, he's gone. Rightfully so--no sane coach would jeopardize their family's meal ticket for a dirty player.

Today's Journalists report first and verify later. The honor code doesn't apply to them, unless I'm missing something. Everyone here is in such a hurry. What's wrong with getting to the bottom of things before making a decision?

I dunno, have multiple brokers accused JC of signing items for cash? Has a member of the press viewed a video which strongly implies that JC did so for money?

Those are the sticking points here.

I disagree - history is replete with coaches who knowingly played those who were ineligible.

That said, I completely believe Sumlin is a man of character and if he knew Manziel did this, would bench him immediately.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Just heard a replay of Joe Schad's interview on SVP and Russillo from today. When asked why a guy from a wealthy family like Manziel would do something like this, Schad said the broker told him broker friends in other cities said Manziel was one of, if not the only, big name college athlete who would sign for cash.

The more we learn about the situation..The more I don't like "Johnny Football", as much as I wanna play him & even things out, I'm starting to lean toward not wanting him to play at all..The more that keeps coming out, I hate to say this & will prolly get flamed, I think he should be suspended from the game..He seems to have no respect for college football & I don't like that on iota..That's just me though..I can totally respect others who feel right the opposite..

Well how else can Manziel maintain his faux-celebrity, party lifestyle? Makes perfect sense to me that mommy and daddy wouldn't fund his partying habits so he went this route.

The internets. The internet has made the transfer of information so quick, and given the fact that whoever gets a story out first will get the majority of the page views and associated ad revenue for it, the media is financially encouraged to spew out click-bait articles as quickly as possible without regard to the consequences or truthiness of the articles.
