Does anybody think this guy will keep his commitment to UT? I've heard rumors that he may de-commit with the two froshs playing now, and i've also heard rumors that crimson may be in his future. does anyone know anything about this or is this just internet talk? :biga2:

fulmer picks a four year starter and the other top recruits transfer.
They have only had two QB's the past eight years. And it looks like Ainge is in for the long haul.

If he wants to go to UT and rot away....so be it.

Life moves on and we have a great QB from California headed our way.

The article is up on TI now. Jonathan Crompton

Jonathan Crompton of Waynesville-Tuscola, North Carolina, one of the nation's top five quarterback prospects, might reconsider his commitment to UT, and Alabama is one of the schools on his mind.

"I am looking at two or three schools along with Tennessee," Crompton said on Wednesday night. "Those are Michigan, Alabama and Auburn. I have offers from all of them."

Crompton is a dropback passer that would fit the mold Alabama's staff wants in a quarterback. He's big (6-3, 220, 4.7), has a strong arm and plays in a passing offense in high school. As a junior, Crompton passed for over 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns.

I think he'll have some pretty tough competition if he comes to Bama. Barnes will be a good QB. He has all the tools to play early and be a solid backup to Brodie. With time and enough reps he should be able to step in and run our offense if Brodie gets injured again next year.

But I'm not counting out JP Wilson, either. He will give anyone on our roster next fall a real run for the money. With him joining the team in January that means he will have a big head start on the other incoming freshmen. Besides, the kid is a leader and a winner. He won't roll over for Guillon or Pennington and he certainly won't be intimidated by Barnes or Crompton. I would not be surprised if he's our #2 QB when we get ready to open the '05 season.

I would reserve judgement on players till I see how they react in Shula's system. Too many times I have seen players underachieve. Probably as often as seeing players overachieve. ;)

Yeah, that's true. I originally thought that both Wilson and Barnes would redshirt next year. But after watching the last 2 games I'm starting to think they won't. :rolleye2:

all i got to say is it must be nice to have qbs like schaeffer, ainge, and then a kid like compton rated so high cant break in. that is why i am amazed that tenn does not compete for the sec title and natl championship each year. they always have a top 10 class. same as texas. i hope they never get a first class coach the rest of the sec would be in trouble. let compton come to alabama and compete if he is better fine let him play. reminds me of what coach friedgen of maryland told a highly regard qb recruit last month. the young qb asked him why is he recruiting another qb with so many competing for the job. coach told him, if you dont have the confidence in your ability to succeed at the positon, then he should go elsewhere. he only wants young men that want to compete and play earning the position.
