JPW should take a week off...

this ankle problem is a nagging injury that needs time to heal. I believe it's been the same ankle bothering him since the Ark game???

i hope Jimmy and Jimmy take the team to victory on Saturday and let JP get some well-deserved rest.

besides, JJ beating MSU would just make me tickled after some of the crap Croom has spouted off.

It would be nice for him to have a week off, but I see no way that CMS would not let him play. JJ and JB could probably handle MSU, but JPW will definately play at least one half.

Given how we have struggled to score with JPW, I don't think the JJ and JB, working with a limited playbook would be productive enough to win the game. I would love to see us get a lead and get other guys in, but from what we have seen so far this season, I doubt we will se anyone. barring injury, but JPW in the game (outside the occasional JJ package).

I don't think it would be a bad idea to start Barnes with JJ rotating plays between the two at QB. Apparantly they have a play package with the combo alternating at QB. If it doesn't work, then bring JP in to get things going. If it is successful, let Barnes play the whole game and get JP some well deserved rest.

This is the third straight week that JP has been limping during the game. He needs some time to heal before the 2 big games at the end. If he is not 100% when Bama goes to LSU, I'm scared to death he is going to get beat up pretty bad.

Let me start by saying I want to win every game, but......

at this point, in THIS season, there is 1 game left.....the Iron Bowl. a win over state and losses to LSU and barn, which is the likely scenario, doesn't change our bowl situation, and it will be a, so what season.

If we win the Iron Bowl, all that changes, everybody has a much brighter outlook, CMS gets another monkey off his back....and all the barn stuff goes up in the attic for a year!

I believe they should be putting all eggs in 1 basket to win the Iron Bowl. That may not be popular, but we and CMS really needs that win.

a win over the barn helps, but mailing it in against msu and lsu in order to prepare for the barn won't help CMS at all. I'm not down on JB, but he apparently isn't ready to run an entire game by himself, and I don't see how we can beat msu without JPW, given our struggles with the running game. Unfortunately, JPW will have to show his mettle and tough it out during this 3 game stretch. Here's hoping he doesn't worsen his injury............

FWIW...there's no way Wilson is going to sit unless we are up big. MissSt may be bad but they are still and SEC team which means SEC talent. And they won't give up and quit if you jump on them early. This is something I've noticed this year. They don't quit like they used to. As far as JPW's ankle healing, it won't completely get better till he can get off it for 2 or 3 weeks. One week won't make that much of a difference. If he's practicing, he's on the ankle, so taking a game off won't matter.

being on his feet, running and moving on the ankle is different entirely than cutting, twisting and having it landed on by big fatties in awkward directions.

sprains don't take that long to get better unless they are reinjured. this one has been reinjured twice that i've seen.

i don't think changing the QB would make our ability to score any worse. it's the lack of a running game that is making it difficult for us to score. JB made a heck of a pass off his back foot while being hit down near the goal line. the kid has a cool, level head. i say give him and JJ a shot.

FIU would have been the game to rest JPW, not MSU. Yet again against an inferior opponent we had to play starters in the second half just to win. MSU could beat us as is, without JPW it's too great of a risk.

Winning the game against AU (I refuse to call it the Iron Bowl since it left B'ham) would be huge, but I'm not ready to concede any games. I surely wouldn't want to give Croom a victory. With Shula's seat warming, all we need is to re-ignite that debate, which I think a MSU victory might.

Have not been following as much AL lately, what has Croom been saying about the game?
It was Croom's past statements, after last year's game when he said "I told Jimmy Johns he would never play QB at Alabama" or something to that effect and told the Huntsville QB Club that Alabama didn't play with as much class as they used to in the game against MSU.

Thanks - if I had made it down the forum a few more posts I would have figured it out. Agree, both comments should have been left unsaid even if he feels that way. I think he was spot on about JJ playing QB but still should have kept it to himself and can't remember enough about the game to remark on the class statement - even if true, again, should not have been stated. Well, technically, since we have used the Johns at QB package he has played QB at Alabama, although I don't know if that counts toward refuting the spirit of Crooms dig.

Johns comments about Croom don't bother me as much as the stuff about beating teams from Mississippi, and being 4-0 against them. I don't know how much the msu players care about a gripe fest between Croom and Johns but the other comments may be taken a little more personally.

I disagree completely. What Crooms suggested was that JJ had no shot at QB at Bama. JJ got a shot. He was simply not good enough to get any snaps in practice, much less in a game. We have much better QBs at Bama than JJ (unless we no longer trust Shula's judgement in even this area).

Now, it would have been fair and accurate if Croom had said that JJ was not able to beat out the other great QB prospects for a starting QB job at Bama, but that is not what he said or suggested...

Right. I also felt like there was a racial undertone to what Croom was saying. His statement was also terribly unfair because Johns was playing RB as a true freshman to get on the field. With Brodie and more established back ups, Johns had no chance of playing as a QB at that point. He wanted to play and accepted the move to RB.
