Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

It's a huge decision and he certainly has the right to weigh all options. I didn't like the remarks about Quarterback requirements. What exactly do you say to him if ou're CNS? If it was me I'd say.."I'll pick the quarterback. You'll play wide receiver".Don't get me wrong. I hope to goodness we get him. Not as bad as I want Deandre Brown who is a much better player but I hope we get Julio too.
I'm about to start a thread a why we may indeed end up with Deandre. It seemed impossible until a young man named Star Jackson did a little recruiting. Look for the thread.

Since you are quoting hypotheticals here, I will respond with the same. If I was JJ, I would say in return," Well, coach, which quarterback among the schools on my list do you think would do the best job of getting the ball to me--Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, or.....JP Wilson?"

Hey, Hey Paul Finebaum said he knows Julio is going to Bama, and that's all that matters. :p

At some point one would think he is truly reading boards like this, in that case, HEY JJ WE NEED YOU AND IN THE END YOU NEED US! Now that that is over with, I hope he knows what Saban has done this year with recruiting and with the team and wants to know what we will be like in 3 to 4 years. Be apart of something special or not we still will win the 13 NC in the next 4 years, I just hope he is with us when we do so!

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

I simply stated facts as they normally play out in real life.

Yes ,ideally he could go wherever and come back home to Foley and everyone would treat him the same, but unless you are from a different part of the country than I that will not be the case in REALITY.

facts are facts and people will hold it against him.
Sey Lester is a star on "d" at Bama and JJ is a star at OU who do you think has a better chance of getting out of school and getting a better job in this state?????
I know look at NFL and all that jazz but how many of these kids that can't miss,do in the end miss the league.

Please do not think I am putting him down because that is not my intent (though from reading my own post I can understand you thinking I meant my words with malice, and knowing that my intent cannot be read through a message board)
I simply tried to make a point that many times especially for an extremely high profile athlete there are more opportunities to be gained by staying in-state even if in-state means the barn (heaven forbid).

The high profile guy who stays home tends to be rememvered and revered more than the one who leaves.Like it or not that can make a difference later in life.
look man...I want Julio to come to Bama just as bad (if not worse) than anybody else. I am a graduate of Foley High School and am still in contact with a lot of people in Foley and in fact will be moving back to the area within the year. I tell you, if Julio doesn't go to Bama...I will be dissapointed, as will other people in the community...but it doesn't change the fact that he's one of us. I don't know about where you're from but my people aren't quite that shallow to only care about a person because of where he chooses to play football at. Julio by all accounts is a great kid and everyone in the city of Foley loves him...and we will all no doubt support him REGARDLESS of where he goes. If you read my past posts on this subject you will see that I ADAMANTLY want him at Bama, but if he goes to Oklahoma or USC or Alaska for all I care...I will still pull for him to be one of the greats all time...I would even say that if he went to any school other than the barn, that school would probably become my second favorite college team to pull for. Don't be so naive as to think that everyone in my hometown is so shallow to only back a kid if he stays at Alabama

With all due respect to Julio and all other recruits. Too many of you guys are thinking that these kids today are chosing schools based on their ability to win a NC. However, the truth is that these kids are chosing schools that can help them get to the NFL.

Just like Calvin Johnson at Ga. Tech! What did Calvin do for Ga. Tech? A LOT!!! Ga. Tech and Chan Gailey would have been an also ran if not for Calvin Johnson. Plus, Chan was an NFL Coach and that helps kids get to the NFL.

I trust that Julio knows that Coach Saban and Alabama is on the rise and will without question get him to the NFL assuming he remains 100% healthy!

WE WANT JULIO and WE NEED JULIO and frankly WE CAN HELP JULIO TOO!

Deep breath...I don't think there is anything wrong (or naive) about John's statements. He didn't say that JJ would be an outcast if he chose to play college football out of state. He just said that players who stay home are more revered. That's only logical. Look at how people in Alabama still revere Brodie Croyle, but nobody refers in the same terms of endearment regarding a QB from the same area, Philip Rivers. I hope JJ goes to BAMA, but I'm sure he'll be loved in Foley regardless of what he does or where he goes, just like Melvin Dansby is still a local hero in Ensley, though not to the extent of Cornelius Bennett.
By the way, Foley is a nice town. And I even saw KS the last time I was there!

Yeah, but they are revered where they played. Peyton Manning is from Mississippi but he is revered in Tennessee. DT was from Miami but he is still revered in Alabama.

Also, who is to say that players even want to go back home after college? Many students see college as a way to get away from their hometown and experience what the rest of the world has to offer.

Saban is able to recruit both regionally and nationally and don't think that any out of state recruits should get the idea that by going to Alabama that he is settling for something less.

Exactly. Shaun Alexander is another great example. Originally from Florence Ky, but now revered in the state of Alabama for what he did wearing the Crimson Jersey.

Yes, and if folks would read my original post I simply said that going home would never be the same if he chose to leave.
Not that he will be an outcast.
Not that he CAN't go back,
Not even that he WANTS to go back.
I just said that he will be treated with a lot less reverence when he goes back should he ever choose to.
People are people and a lot of them will not be as enamored with him should he leave the state.
Unless he grew up in Mayberry and everyone is Andy Griffith ,,,,Human behavior is a pretty predictable thing.

I do not mean to insult the people of Foley ,I have spent a good amount of time there and enjoyed it. But people are similar wherever you go, and many feel slighted when a nationally renowned prep star chooses to represent the people of another state.
Right or wrong that is how it is.
Like JDA said look and Dansby vs. Bennett or Croyle vs. Rivers.

Better examples would be the guys who don't go pro and just go home to a 9-5 job .
That would be an interesting research project to see how their status was affected IF or when they chose to go home.
Compare the celebrated guys who stayed in-state vs. the celebrated guys who left the state.

just wanted to put in my 2 cents. according to this guy: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/714678.html
BAMA's still the front runner for JJ with Oklahoma & FSU right behind. he also predicted arthur brown to go to miami. but i REALLY hope the sooners getting romped by west virginia and FSU with their suspensions/scandal makes UA a clear leader again. although having JPW at qb is still probably the biggest hindrance to lure JJ, hopefully being a top 5 recruiting class along with having Star will help.

i hope he sees that in CNS's 1st year the team had dramatic improvement including 4th quarter play and playing from behind. also, they were competitive in every game losing all 6 games by a TD or less.

looking at LSU last night, over 3/4 of the players were recruited while CNS was there. CNS's last 2 years ('03 & '04), LSU had the #1 and #2 recruiting class according to rivals. most of whom made up the nat'l title winning team last night. UA's already in the top 3 this year so no doubt in my mind a nat'l title is around the corner.

so here's to JJ joining UA. as a longtime, faithful BAMA fan out in Los Angeles, i'm really hoping JJ signs w/UA to help provide a dynamic offense. watching UA on offense has been painful every year (except for when S. Alexander was here). don't get me wrong, watching the '05 defense led by Demeco was great. but hopefully with JJ & Star in the mix, i'll finally be able to enjoy watching UA on offense. ROLL TIDE!!!

Re: WORRIED WITH LESTER/JONES VISITING fsu???

With what is just around the bend for FSU... I wouldn't worry about them any longer. ANY recruit has to see the writing on the wall... FSU is no longer a power house and may be the next target for sanctions to divert pressures on the "beautiful people" at USC. Just my 2 cents...

Re: WORRIED WITH LESTER/JONES VISITING fsu???

To be honest,JJ may look at FSU,but my gut feeling is Lester isn't that interested.I believe FSU is making a reach hoping to snag JJ by their offer to RL and this just shows they must feel like their outside looking in!
