It’s about time for something like this to break. It’s not just a CFB problem. CBB can be just as, if not more, toxic. NIL is an issue across all sports and is harming them too. Won’t be long for players to opt out of conference tourneys (if they’re not expected to do well or need to win it for a NCAA berth) or secondary level tournaments like the NIT.

Just about to post this. Looks like 6 FSU Basketball players are suing head coach Leonard Hamilton because they never got their promised $250,000 in NIL money. I didn't think the schools could do NIL, so why sue the coach?

It’s been said before but I’ll reiterate.
The NIL acronym doesn’t fit. It’s now PFP. Sure, there are a few who actually gain from their “Name, Image and Likeness” but no guardrails allowing collectives to “Pay For Play” have derailed the original intent. Many called for what we’re now seeing during the genesis of this NZAA dumpster fire. And sadly enough we’ll never go back to true collegiate athletics as we once loved.

There'll be more of that at a bunch of schools and a bunch of sports, and until we get federal legislation or a CBA, it'll get worse before it gets better.

I put the over / under on a player suing over a lack of playing time at next season.

Also, while the original rule was that schools couldn't pay players directly, somebody sued, the NCAA caved like Neville Chamberlain and said some months ago that they wouldn't try to enforce it.

IOW, pay-for-play with all pretenses dropped.

Can't really get a CBA without Congress either, so it's back to federal legislation...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville punter Brady Hodges said he opted out of the Sun Bowl this week because the Cardinals’ NIL collective did not pay money promised to him in September.
“I graduated on December 13th and had every intention on being with the team had they held up their end of the deal,” Hodges wrote. He did not disclose how much money he is owed.
