I was under the impression that even if he wanted to go to Bama, at this point we wouldn't take him. Is there a link?

Now this will be very big news if it comes to fruition. I had previously said that I didn't believe Smith had a firm offer to Alabama, but that certainly seems wrong judging by his words.

He would be a big impact in the running game as an interior linebacker. However, with that said, he's going to have to work some on his athleticism in space and in the passing attack.

This one really shakes things up for me. I cannot help but wonder that if we have some bad feelings about some guys further on up the board for Smith to get a firm offer. I was not expecting this.

Refering to T. Patrick? Stinson? or on the offensive side?

I will say this on Smith...

I wonder if this means that Gerald West is gone? Considering the possibilities of us either missing out on some more guys on down the board, or West heading to Southern Miss, I would honestly prefer the latter.

If West is indeed Hattiesburg bound, that would open up a spot for Smith, especially since we really don't have any other corner prospects on the board at the moment (Kirkpatrick notwithstanding).

I should have titled this thread "Petey Smith POSSIBLY to UA?"

I'm not sure and many others if he has a firm offer, but he sure made it sound like he did.

I love saying I told you so on this one!:) Some on here....cough, cough...Big Easy ;)......didn't believe it, but I kept hearing from 2 friends of mine who are big Armwood boosters that Petey was going to take the Bama offer. Petey is a big pick up and is more of a 4 star than 3. He has a nose for the ball and attacks on every play. GREAT NEWS!:BigA:

No worries about Tana Patrick. With Willis gone, he's definitely Alabama-bound now, though he was honestly that even before.

Stinson may be another story. LSU has made up at least some ground -- or at lot, depending on who you listen to -- and he may not be the lock we all thought he was a couple of weeks back. With Cox firm, we really don't have another Jack linebacker prospect on the board after Stinson, so if we cannot get him that closes the book there.

As for the other guys who may be possible, it's pretty simple. Massie is a toss-up, Randle will likely go to LSU, etc... maybe it just means that we are essentially not feeling good on one of those guys. And maybe Moore doesn't have the firm offer? Or, again, perhaps it means that we have basically gotten the idea that West will be going to USM after all.

Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I do think this has to mean a spot has effectively opened up somewhere.

BET: Have you ruled out the possibility that the staff has realized one of the borderline guys might not qualify?

Well , this could be good , bad or a case wishful thinking . If so , this is a bit more than a slight surprise in my mind . I'm a little skeptical but , time will tell .

A Petey Smith article just popped up on BOL and he said he will be committing "out of the blue" any day now...

Really interesting indeed. I'm sure Smith is a good pick but I'm just hoping we don't lose out on a player like Stinson which is a position we need more.

But if it sticks ... welcome aboard Mr. Smith.

Petey has cancelled his visit to Auburn. I think we can wrap this one up and add it to the commit column.

On the extra spot I wouldn't be surprised if West is being pushed to USM because of his academic situation.

Not TOO worried if Stinson goes to LSU because Tana, who is more of a lock than ever now even saying he might not visit USC or UT, can play the Jack.

If it comes down to trading West for Smith, I'm cool with that. We need to get that kid a new hat though. RTR.:BigA:
