King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss was gunned down yesterday in Texas.

I've read several articles about this, and apparently, there was a lot more going on that fed into this tragic event than simply sexuality. Granted, I'm not going to dismiss the above account as that's his opinion on what and why this tragic event happened. But when you read some of the neighbors' accounts of the situation, it becomes more complicated. Either way, this should never have happened.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Wednesday that Tennessee’s ban on gender affirming care in cases of gender dysphoria does not trigger heightened legal protections. At the same time, it permitted the same exact care for minors going through other conditions like precocious puberty.

Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, claimed that the law turns on the age of the patient and its medical uses, and that is has nothing to do with sex. This wobbly argument lets him avoid the 14th Amendment and its higher standards for laws that target sex.

The decision was fractured among the justices, with many writing independently, though all three liberals dissented.

Gender dysphoria and precocious puberty are not anywhere near the same thing. One involves temporarily delaying the onset of puberty to a child who may not be ready for it emotionally. It does not involve mutilating sexual organs, a completely life altering and non-reversible decision. To think that we could cut off a child's sex organs, no questions asked, is a horrible thing. Can we not just wait until the age of majority to start cutting things off? They can still dress like the opposite sex and cut their hair and whatnot to fit in. Once they hit 18 then we can do a rigorous analysis and determine the best course of action.

I'm absolutely willing to concede that sex change surgery for minors is a controversial issue and should be considered separately. However, both gender dysphoria and precocious puberty involve puberty-blocking drugs, the availability of which have now been denied to children with the former condition.

The DSM-5 lists gender dysphoria as a mental health diagnosis and for the very life of me, I can't understand why so many people go whistling past this on their way to the clinic. But worse, de -transitioners are silenced and criticized once they realize what a stupid, stupid thing they've done. Also, there are a lot of LGBs out there who do NOT want to be lumped in with the T's. Some are brave enough to say so; others are not. In any case, I don't really care what an adult does with his or her body as long as tax-payers aren't footing the bill. I feel very differently when talking about kids whose very existence is defined by "phases."

This seems to imply that gender dysphoria is considered a mental illness, but that's not the case. The diagnosis is not meant to pathologize gender identity itself, but rather to address the mental health challenges some individuals face due to gender dysphoria.

Only since 20018 and having worked closely with both psychologists and psychiatrists, I can assure you that there is not full consensus on this. And since the elephant is already in the room, we might as well point him out. Much of what passes for health care isn't care at all; it's a product. I'm all for capitalism, but this is capitalism gone berserk. Encouraging kids to undergo permanent cosmetic procedures that will have them taking meds for the rest of their lives is pure malpractice for the sake of a buck. (And last I checked, the suicide rate for these people was 40%. I don't know if that figure has changed, but if it has, I'm betting it isn't by much.)

And let me say again, I honestly don't care what other adults do. As long as you're leaving my money alone, you are free to get all the surgeries you want. These kids should be receiving counseling so if they finally reach legal age and still want to change genders, at least they are making an informed decision and are fully aware of the consequences.

Once again, I'm not referring to surgeries, only the medications. You and I likely pretty much agree on gender-affirming surgical procedures for minors.

And I just saw this regarding the special needs of L.G.B.T.Q. when it comes to suicide prevention:

Trump Administration Will End L.G.B.T.Q. Suicide Prevention Service
The federal government says it will maintain funding for a national suicide prevention hotline, but no longer pay for specialized support for L.G.B.T.Q. people.

The Trump administration has instructed the national suicide prevention hotline to stop offering specialized support to L.G.B.T.Q. callers next month, saying those callers can rely on the hotline’s general services.

The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that has provided that specialized support to L.G.B.T.Q. callers to the 988 suicide prevention hotline, said Wednesday that it had received a stop-work order for that service, effective July 17, and provided a copy of the order to The New York Times.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that oversees the hotline, confirmed the decision.

The option for L.G.B.T.Q. support was established in 2022 based on a recognition that gay and transgender people experience distinct mental health issues — often driven by family rejection and societal discrimination — and have disproportionately high suicide rates.

Well, they still have access to the general suicide prevention service, so at least there's that. What's this about? Cost-cutting?

As the past couple of months have shown, saving money is not a goal of the Trump Administration. There must be some other reason.
I dunno, maybe having your own hotline is being seen as some sort of special privilege or something. People tend not to like that sort of thing. Personally, that wouldn't have shown up on my radar, but if there's one thing we can agree on, it's this: the people of this nation have taken hypersensitivity to ludicrous lengths. I think if a person is genuinely offended that the T's have their own suicide hotline, then buddy, it's time to get a hobby and step away from social media for a while.

Four teenagers were arrested early Tuesday morning and have hate crime charges pending against them after police say they stole and cut up Pride flags outside one of Atlanta’s most well-known gay bars.

Atlanta police say they responded to a vandalism call at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue. Witnesses told police that six males stole Pride flags from outside of Blake’s on the Park and were cutting them up with a knife and riding around on scooters in the middle of the intersection, the site of the rainbow crosswalks.
