I'm puzzled by the reaction from LSU fans. He left them 3 years ago and they are just now feeling betrayed? I mean, if he had gone directly from LSU to Bama, thatd be one thing, but he didn't. They've got some anger, but it shouldnt be directed towards Bama. Its not like there was an opening at LSU to fill.

I meant it as far as history and tradition goes, Bama is better. And let's face it, Shula was terrible, you weren't much better than Ole Miss and So. Car when he was here. Who said LSU was untouchable or dominant? Not anyone I know.
Weren't much better than Ole Miss? Highly Disagree. We competed in every game we lost. And besides two years ago.....cotton bowl victory I believe.

If LSU fans would listen to his presser today, they would realize he loves LSU, & always will love LSU......which I can respect, and anyone else should to.
I noticed that when listening to the press conference. I think he regrets leaving LSU, as he didn't enjoy the fruits of his recruiting labors, which we are enjoying right now. He also seemed to use "we" when he referred to LSU and "you" when he referred to Alabama. But to LSU fans, he was a god, and that was tarnished because he went to a divisional rival, one who owned us for an extended period of time. When I look at it, the reaction is of no surprise.

I don't think that anybody is expecting LSU to be happy. Of course going to a BCS game, thrashing ND, and winning 11 games should help dim the pain, but what I was referring to was the discussion of throwing things at him, and causing physical pain.

I would say that at every SEC stadium on any given Saturday, about 30% of the fans are bad fans. That goes for Alabama, AU, UT, UF etc.... However, I would say that 50% or more of the fans that attend LSU games are not only horrible fans, but disgusting human beings. They think that by being an LSU fan they can be "crazy" and "unique". They think it gives them the right to cuss in front of children, hit women, taunt opposing fans, fight opposing fans, throw glass objects and batteries at players, coaches and cheerleaders, etc.... It isn't "cute" anymore, and I wish that the SEC would force LSU to get control of it.

They just beat the ever living Snot out of Notre Doom, one of their Coaches was just hired away, JR may be leaving for the draft, but theres more than a few discussing nothing but Saban.

I'd think they have better things to talk about, but the hurt runs deep I suppose. It will bring out a deeper rivalry now, and thats a good thing.

Nice throwing out an arbitrary number for your generalization. Hitting women? Really? I have been to every home game for the last couple of years, and I have never seen any of this stuff. If people get offended by the "Tigah Bait" chant, then they shouldn't go to a football game. We had an incident at Tenn. 2005 with a bus and some bottles, but other than that nothing close to what you described goes on at LSU games. But obviously since you know that 1 out of every 2 LSU fan is not only a terrible fan, but also a terrible human being, you must know your stuff. Where's the supposed Bama class?

These guys that talk about throwing stuff at Saban are just ....ed, I seriously doubt anyone will do anything to Saban.

Then I guess you encounter a different population of LSU fan than me. Oh, we know how "terrible" Shula was that is why we do not understand why the same people who said he was "terrible" are saying we were unfair to him about firing him. Being "terrible" gets you fired at most jobs. :biggrin2:

I think the media is fanning this fire which is why LSU fans seem so much more irate than Florida fans did when Spurrier went to SC. A journalist only needs 2 or 3 quotes from a couple drunk idiots to make it seem like everyone in Baton Rouge is out buying ammo and sniper rifles.

At least Spurrier was able to step back on his alma mater's home field and take part in ceremonies and his name is still attatched to the University. Part of that is due to the fact that he was a player and a long term coach but also I don't think the media jumped on the emotional bandwagon as hard as they're doing here.

ESPN wants a villain and they're creating one. Coaching is a career path and coaches are hired hands. Saban doesn't owe LSU anything.

I stand by my figure that about half the people in Tiger stadium are disgusting human beings. That is my opinion, and I will always keep it. Everything I have stated I have seen with my own two eyes. Nothing but a drunk, obnoxious, mob. It wasn't always like that, but it has become "cute" to be that rowdy within the LSU nation. If the police arrested half the people trying to bring in liquor or that are already drunk, that damn stadium would be half empty.

The LSU administration has let it get out of control. Like I said, it won't be long before someone is killed and it won't be so funny and cute anymore.

And I will contend that you know absolutely nothing. I am sorry that being drunk at a football game offends you so much.

I'll have to take up for ya on this one. There are some dang good LSU fans. I went to the LSU/Bama game this past year and though I had some "idiots" spew comments my way the majority were very nice......smart elicks but very nice. I think what many people have come to dislike about the LSU fan is the arrogance that some have taken on since their recent success. Nothing wrong with being a bit cocky about your program but when people start going out of their way to invade personal space to tell you then it gets old fast.

There's no denying LSU is one dang good program right now but it hasn't always been that way and it's not promised to last. Be proud of it, enjoy it, you've had some great recent success to add to your history and tradition. But as many fans from all schools need to do, "Act like you've been there before". ;)

I know LSU fans can be rowdy at their stadium. But the VAST majority of them are good people. Sometimes you just have to ignore a person harassing you and move along. But I don't know any other place where you can go and tailgate with passionate fans who also provide you w/ great food and beer.

Many are just not the traditional fan that carries his/her chair back seat and radio into the stadium that UA/TN/AU have.

Titletown, did you have a very bad experience at an LSU vs Bama game?

Usually if you don't provoke any trouble it doesn't find you. I haven't had any problem among LSU fans. Have I seen problems? Sure but LSU is not unique to having troublesome fans.

After the hell that was the 90's, most fans who are probably obnoxious, i.e. students, hadn't been there before. That is where most of the complaints have been lodged. But it has gotten much better. For example, in 2003 during the Auburn game, a security guard i know had to throw out 23 people. In 2005, after Katrina, during the Auburn game he didn't have to throw anyone out.

One thing I enjoyed about the LSU/Bama game was sitting around a tail gating party, smell of charcoal on a grill/pit, good music playing, talking about good football with good people (meaning both LSU and Bama fans). And you're right it is the "younger" generation that is the majority of the problem. But I guess they're young and dumb. What do you expect?;)

But the older I get the more I enjoy the other things (like mentioned above) almost as much as the actual game itself. Life is stressful and hard enough. Let's all just chill the junk out, kick back, bbq, visit, and enjoy some good old SEC FOOTBAW!!!
