LSU Fires Athletic Director

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Had to look up where the Louisiana governor graduated from.....I assumed it was LSU with him being so involved in this quagmire. Nope, he graduated from Lafayette when it was still SE Louisiana.

I guess since this is their premier state program he's trying to make sure it goes how he wants it. I'm not sure how in the world they are going to hire a good coach though....who is going to want to get in that mess. There are a ton of politics involved in this.

When has having a search committee turned out with an overall successful hire? And this is going into finding a president, an AD, and a coach. What an absolute mess.
I love that the Gov acted like they can get the best coach out there while also not agreeing to a giant buyout ... good luck with that

Currently, they have no head coach, players looking to jump in the portal, assistant coaches trying to find their next job, no AD, no president, and national signing day on the horizon. What could possibly go wrong?

Landy: "...but I threw for 800 yards a game and won every game for 20 straight years."
"Sir...were you playing a video game?"
Landy: "I was exercising my expertise in an elaborate SIMULATION!"
"Sir...were you playing on Freshman difficulty level"
Landy: "What is difficulty level?!?"

One thing this might do is cause Nick Saban to run away screaming.

If he turned down UTw largely because of their boosters' refusal to stop meddling, how would he feel about spending ages 75 - 78 dealing with a maroon like Landry?

This guy makes a freight train carrying a Tomahawk missile look subtle.
If I’m them, I’m make Saban say no to being the AD not head coach. Give him full control of the athletic department. Saban wouldn’t do it. But I’d make him turn the school down.

I think you're right. The Guvnah is now saying that the Louisiana taxpayers will pay Kelly's buyout. I'm not at all sure he can unilaterally do that. While I don't pretend to know the law in Louisiana, it's usually the legislature's job to distribute taxpayer money.

I also fear where you might be going with your concerns, BearFoot....Are we about to see taxpayer money appropriated by whatever means -- legislative action or executive fiat -- to fund collegiate pay-for-play?

We don't normally allow politics onto the Football board. But we're dealing with Louisiana state politics and LSU athletics being so tightly intertwined that it's hard to separate the two.

Let's keep the discussion confined to LSU / Louisiana / Kelly / Woodward / Landry. If it expands beyond that, we'll move to NSPR.
We should all hold our noses when we discuss Louisiana politics... (Nasty stuff)

Louisiana should go with a Statewide referendum to select the next LSU coach

If taxpayers are paying Kelly’s buyout, shouldn't they have a say in selecting the next coach?
No taxation without coach selection...

and now the interim AD is saying he has FULL authority to hire a football coach.

LSU interim athletic director Verge Ausberry will have full authority to hire the Tigers' next football coach, and he told reporters Friday that a search committee has already been formed to identify Brian Kelly's replacement.
...
"We're going to hire the best football coach there is," Ausberry said in a news conference Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "That's our job. We are not going to let this program fail. LSU has to be in the playoffs every year in football. There's 12 teams that make it. It's going to expand here. We have to be one of those teams at LSU. No substitute."

Watching SEC 🤡 shows is better than watching (non-Alabama) football.

I just went over to one of LSU's message boards and read some stuff about BK that seems very credible... stuff behind the scenes about how he acted. I have never liked him. Glad he was at LSU for a few years though. lol.

If I were an LSU fan, however, I'd be upset that he wasn't fired much sooner. I know they will get a better coach/person.... unfortunately LSU will be good again with the right hire. In my opinion, both Coach O and Coach BK were just not high character men.... that should be the first trait they look for.
