BREAKING LSU Firing Brian Kelly

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

exactly. @TIDE-HSV can correct this, but the courts have in last 10+ years disfavored (especially) broad non-competes. They have to be limited specifically in writing to geographic location(s), scope and duration of 1-2 years in most cases. It would also be against LSU's fiduciary interests to pay him to not coach anywhere.
Killy's contract wasn't a non-compete, in fact it required (attempted) mitigation via another coaching job.

Woodward hired both Fisher and Kelly. Perhaps Woodward is attracted to those kind of coaches...?

Look at the incentives. There are most likely more incentives for ADs to hire coaches than to keep them.
How could Alabama's AD justify his salary and existence during all those Saban years?

LSU fired the OC (joe Sloan) at LSU also. How will this affect LSU against us in 2 weeks? Improvement? Chaos?
Good question. It's hard to imagine that it won't, in some way, hurt them. Then again, they've been really bad on offense, so depending on who calls plays, it might help them.

Basically, I don't know. :D

Sounds right, I guess. I thought it was odd that they would care if he coached somewhere else if they thought he wasn’t good enough to coach for them.

Also, I thought non-compete clauses existed to protect the receiver of the contracted services.

Chaos. They'll be more focused on the portal and all the "recruiting" rather than preparing for us.

I'm not saying they won't care about the game - they'll still want to beat us. But there's no way they can prepare like they need to. If we jump out to an early lead, they'll throw in the towel, much like they did against aTm.

Even if the contract doesn't provide for it, the aggrieved (Kelly) is obligated to try to mitigate damages in any event. IDK LA law, but Brett is correct in that the courts and also the state legislatures have always disfavored non-compete clauses...

According to the article on ESPN, Alex Atkins (their tight ends coach) will assume OC and Playcalling. He was a former OC at Florida St. I guess our coaches need to pull some tape when he was at FSU.

Several teams this year have turned around and punched far above their weight in performance after their coach was fired: UCLA, Arkansas, UAB all come to mind. All these teams played much better right after their coach was removed. LSU, however, might be a bit different, since their coach was running an overall winning season. It also remains to be seen how much poaching is going on right now with the players since they can all transfer due to the 30 day portal rules. This will be interesting.

Yep, need to look at tape from FSU with their OC calling plays and also prep for the possibility of LSU's backup QB getting some play time. Isn't he the dual threat that came from Miss State? Just hope our coaches are prepared and prepare the players as best they can.

This isn't the rule anymore. They have a 15 day window starting 5 days after a new coach is hired. So they are all waiting right now.
Holy "the rules are changing so fast my 0.2 second Google search can't even keep up" Batman!

This could work against us then, as the players have something tangible to play for...portal (cash money) rankings.

I hope Atkins calls plays like he did for FSU last year.

When does the portal open for LSU players?
