Portal is reportedly a 15 day window that starts 5 days after hiring a new coach now.
what is going to happen when Sark says he is going to the NFL and Texas, LSU, Florida, and Penn State are all looking for a coach
Not to mention Arkansas and possibly Kentucky and FSU at the end of the year. Auburn may be forced to hold onto Freeze for another year.
So once a player is in the portal they cannot continue to play for the team they are wanting to leave, correct? They are in a holding place waiting on another team to pick them up?
Yes I think that is correct. But they won't hire a new coach until the offseason more than likely, so that is when the portal window will open.

I knew Kelly was a first-class SOB and not a particularly likable guy - but I was perusing ATVS and I had no idea how much that fan base utterly despised the guy. Many of them were deeply opposed to the hire from Day 1.
A particularly damning take from an editor at ATVS - “Kelly wasn’t a serious football coach. He put essentially an NPC team on the field with no discernible identity. It was like if you asked AI to generate an Outback Bowl participant”.
Generally, they feel that literally the only thing he got right at LSU was Jayden Daniels.
They also seem to be realistic about potential replacements, and many of them don’t think Kiffin will be interested. Brent Key seems to be getting a lot of buzz.

So, Sark suddenly has announced his availability as an NFL head coach to the league that ditched him as an OC five years ago. Based undoubtedly on the juggernautical job he's done of developing the patented Shorthorn RPO game with Arch Manning (who was secretly awarded the 2025 Heisman via his 2019 performance in his 1/2-A Classification high school's production of "A Streetcar Named Desire and DNA Notwithstanding"...). Sark was probably about one More Cowbell crescendo of getting kicked to curb on the 40 Acres last week.

Biggest surprise is that he spent that much time on it. Nakos or whomever can pretend they're finding out info, but if they're not even sure if the AD is making the hire, there's no way they know who's interested while the season is going on
I thought he buried the lede... in that Woodward might not be the main one making the hire
One of the few things the NCAA has done with the portal rules that actually makes some sense.
Why would you trust someone that cost 2 schools a combined $132 Million in the last 8 years even hire a guy to wash uniforms?
Tell you who I feel sorry for...Garrett Nussmeier. He was guaranteed big money had he gone in the draft last year. Now, just read that he may be benched for the Bama game.
Never said they should. Just think that's the bigger story at the moment, not a hot list of coaching names
Only an interim school President, Governor essentially acting as President, 2 football whiffs in a row by the AD ... it's all intriguing. Directly affects who they hire, but bigger news at the moment
