BREAKING LSU Firing Brian Kelly

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

IF LSU higher ups had any sense they would hire a search firm to hire Kelly's replacement and give Woodward his walking papers.
The Governor of Louisiana said today that there would be a committee…that the AD would NOT play a role in the hiring…best part…he said we’re not going down that failed path…🤣🔥

Sounds like a Jeff Foxworthy joke in the making: “You may be a Cajun redneck if your Governor fires and hires your university football coach.”

Only way they win the no more ridiculous buyouts game is to get someone like Tulane’s coach. They don’t get a splash hire without a huge buyout because they’ve shown they will fire a “good” coach or 3 who have won bigtime games and championships.

Word has begun circulating that Kelly accepted a $20 million buyout from LSU. Evidently his contract contained a morals clause.

Edit: There have been rumors of Kelly’s history of philandering going back to his early years as a head coach. My thought is the “morals clause” was possibly added to his LSU due to his “free wheeling” history in South Bend.

IMO, being the arrogant, egotistical bottom feeder that he his, Kelly never imaged a world in which someone would ever fire him, “for cause” not withstanding. He’s always considered himself the smartest guy in the room. And I bet he still feels that way today..

Is there a college football coach who would not fail the “morals code” clause?
That should be on his agent to allow this addition into the contract.

Almost every one of these contracts these days include a morals clause in some form.

It is a “firing tool”. If your coach is winning, you look the other way. If the coach is losing, it gives you a way to mitigate the financial consequences in canning them.

Just imagine if our future governor, Tuberville, decides to fire an Alabama football coach...

A guy that once coached at Notre Dame would never violate a morals code.

Excuse me, but I've gotta make some popcorn...
There's a full-length article by Dellenger on this topic. Kind of a long read, but highly instructive. There's a lot of history, both for LSU as an institution and for Landry personally. Dellenger says that Woodward crossed Landry on a personnel matter, that Landry holds grudges, and that Landry never forgets a slight. Woodward's a dead man walking.

Dellenger's article alludes to some history of philandering in Kelly's background, and that LSU might use the morals clause in his contract to as leverage to negotiate the buyout down. After Orgeron, the irony of LSU using a morals clause as leverage is sweet enough to rot teeth.

I'd link the article, but it has a couple of non-TF words. If that doesn't bother you, Google "The sordid tale of LSU football, the Louisiana governor and a yearslong feud by Ross Dellenger"

The history on the intertwined relationship of Louisiana politics and LSU football goes all the way back to Huey Long.

And yes, Guvnah Landry does act for all the world like a Cajun version of Donald Trump, only with a smaller portfolio. He's even managing to embarrass a lot of LSU supporters....I didn't think that was possible.
