JessN: LSU Wrap-up: Winning teams have to learn to win ugly -- like Bama did tonight

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

i just hope we can bounce back when it happens
Even though they lost at Vandy, it was a “different type of loss”….they are now re-energized. Combine that with playing in that haunted stadium, and a coach that is literally coaching for his job, and once again they having literally nothing to play for but to ruin our season….it’s bad ingredients. I hate Auburn. SNASS

that will make it even sweeter when we break their hearts once again

What’s funny is this only happens when they are good. 2010/2013/2017/ 2019. They will throw the kitchen sink at us but we have film on them with the new scheme on offense. There defense got gashed pretty bad since Durkin has to run the whole show now.

Seems like the whole board is in violent agreement on #4.

We've got to eliminate the plays that aren't working. Sure, in theory, the play "should" work, but most of the time they don't, so we are basically wasting 1 down out of 3 on most drives because of play calling.

Since my background in in basketball, I'd compare it to asking your shooting guard, who is most comfortable behind the 3-point line, to go down on the blocks and try to post against bigger and taller guys. Yeah, in theory, he might make an amazing shot or get fouled and go to the line for 2, but he's much more likely to nail the 3.

I feel like that's what we are doing when we try an inside running play OR one of those horizontal trick plays.

Just let Ty and the offense do what they do best!!! Use the short passing game as a substitute for the running game, and when the defense cheats up, go more verticle.

It's pretty simple sitting here in my Monday morning coaching chair, but sometimes the simple thing is the most obvious thing!!!

I keep wondering how the Homer Smith offense would work in the short passing game.

Not necessary. Those passes are already a part of CKD/Grubb's system. We just need to abandon the plays that don't work and call more of the 3-step, quick hitters!

Keep the DL from getting to Ty, and pick up 4-7 yards a clip and stay out of 3rd and long, which OU and the barn will feast on!

Occam’s Razor…

I do believe the deep ball is almost there. Some deep balls the past few weeks have been due to DBs getting away with holding our WRs back, particularly in the SCar and LSU games. It's not the issue on every single throw, but Ty and the WRs are close to going over the top on these defenses. Success on that front may aid in opening up lanes in the run game.

I do concur w/stopping the cute stuff. Cute only works every once in awhile; now the teams seem to be expecting it against Alabama's offense.

Tighten up our running game and hit the edges a bit more. If something works, use it. Don't try to force it though.

Tighten up the passing game and really work the short and medium stuff. Our RBs are good receivers so keep them involved.

Still throw the occasional long ball and more so if we start hitting them. Need to keep it in there as a threat.

Slack off on the trickeration and other stuff that detracts from our core mission, takes up valuable practice time, and ultimately is going to lead to a critical mistake at some point.

That sound good?

Most championship teams have had to win quite a few close, tough games. Get a W and get ready for the next game. Try to get better every week
