Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

The best thing my parents ever taught me was, "nothing good ever happens after midnight." I think this case proves them right.
im pretty sure a lot of us (riz, vj, slab) can tell you about some absolutely fantastic things happening after midnight... but we might need to have that conversation over on the NS forum.

Yeah, I got that advice also. (I didn't always listen, cause I thought I was grown at 21)
Bar fighting with Townies has a high price tag. :(

I wanted LSU to pound the Ducks... Chances are getting slimmer by the day.

Time for us LSU fans to get behind Jarrett.

Do you really have a choice? Of course not, and that's what you'll do. Maybe Lee will do better not looking over his shoulder. I'm just not able to go along with the view that this is neutral or an improvement for LSU...

No Sir, we really don't have a choice unless we play Zach Mettenberger, Stephen Rivers, or Jerrard Randall. What I do know is that Lee has 8 starts in SEC games and has played in 30+, Mett was rated the #1 JC Qb in the nation after leading his team to the JC National Championship game. I also acknowledge that our top two QB's have actually taken significant snaps in college games. Maybe Jarrett can pull off a Matt Flynn type year. Fingers crossed.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but...

Something struck me as seriously strange about this whole thing, but has been overshadowed by Fight Night at Shady's...did it seem odd that Les Miles' first statement in the press conference was that the players curfew was at 10:30 pm that night?

What?? Having played and coached in college, it seemed way out of line to me that the team would have such a strict curfew since fall camp had just concluded with no practice the next day and school was not starting until Monday of the next week. Any player I know in that position would have laughed at that idea of a 10:30 curfew and been ready to revolt!

I surmise that either 15 players chose to risk getting caught for breaking curfew by being at a bar next to campus (unlikely)....or no curfew ever existed and the players were allowed to have one night to blow off some steam after camp. Either way, it shows either the lack of respect for CLS and the team rules or Miles was lying and covering his mad hat ..... after the whole night blew up into an MMA match...

Based on Miles' history, I will tend to believe the latter...after all time management is his biggest weakness!!
I think They mentioned on jox the other day that lsu had some sort of tradition to break curfew on the last nite of camp.

What I remember of Flynn was that he was able to not make mistakes, despite his HC putting him in horrible situations in the 07 season. I just dont see Lee having that in him. I could be wrong about Flynn but thats the image I still have of him, of course I only watched LSU's games as an outsider

Agreed. Not to mention Lee seemed to crumble under the pressure of starting quarterback early in his career. He had some decent outings last year but he was never really "The Guy", rather he was at most "One Of The Guys" or "The Guy Temporarily Replacing The Guy". It'll be interesting to see how he handles the mental pressures this go-round or if being back in the spotlight with the full weight of the team's success on his shoulders causes him to revert to his old ways.
Lee was a 3rd-string freshman expecting to be a little-used reserve. Perrilloux got dismissed then Andrew Hatch got injured and Lee was thrown to the wolves WAY before he was ready. He set a bunch of freshman passing records, but his 16 interceptions overshadowed his successes.

But he has come a long way in four years. He's experienced, is 5-4 as a starter, has played in 30 games, and saved several big games last season when Jefferson was flat. He could have transferred and been starting in a lower classification, but he hung around and was determined to improve . . . and he has. Lee outperformed Jefferson in the spring. It is a mistake to expect the raw freshman from 2008 to return.

if he outperformed him in spring....wouldn't he have been named the starter?????

Les pretty much committed himself to Jefferson. Lee and Mettenberger both had better springs, but it was likely because they got more reps trying to get them ready. Les wasn't going to replace his 2-year starter because of practice play. But everybody knew that if Jefferson hit a cold streak like he did last season with four straight games without a TD pass . . . that Les had more options this year.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

We won't know if Lee has "developed" until the game is played. The kid we saw as the starter a few years ago is not the same kid now. Not saying that he's improved or gotten worse. I'm just using common sense in that all of us constantly change, grow, mature or regress etc. So it has been a lot of time in between now and the last time he had his shot at being the man. I suspect we won't see the interception machine we saw several years ago. But I don't think we're going to see the next coming of Peyton Manning either. With age and experience it is more logical to assume he will probably be better than he was as a freshman. But one thing he'll have to contend with if he ends up being the starter for the entire year is teams gameplanning FOR HIM. And not for Jefferson only to have him come in as a "change up". That is going to be a hurdle he'll have to overcome.

That seems to be the general concensus when people look back on Flynn. Truth be told, Flynn was an excellent QB. Need proff? Flynn was drafted in the 7th round to a team that had selected Brian Brohm in the second round. By the end of training camp Flynn was backup to Aaron Rodgers and Brohm was later dismissed to join the Bills.

Talk in the NFL is that Flynn is very high on the list of teams that want a starter. I would say that Flynn is/was a pretty strong college QB. He didn't have the body of work in college to warrant a high draft pick. He only had one full year as the starter after J Russ was drafted.

Stop me if you've heard this one: a quarterback, a linebacker, and a Marine walk into a bar......

That's not a joke it's a riddle. I'm trying to figure out if the quarterback was Jordan Jefferson or Stephen Garcia. Sorry...Couldn't help myself.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

On a more serious note,What were these young men thinking? The start of the season this close and your at a bar? Fighting?! Not just fighting but jumping a guy? Thats just thuggish imho. Although, this could be best for LSWHO. I have yet to figure out why Lester goes with JJ as his starting QB. Then again,I have yet to figure anything out about Lester. Kind of hard to read a guy that eats grass and picks his nose on the sideline,on national TV none the less.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

some video evidence coming out:

this video shows that JJ never touched the Marine inside the bar

this video supposedly shows a man in all dark clothing kicking the Marine. JJ was seen wearing lighter clothing in the bar:
